iMessage and FaceTime not working on iPhone 6 iOS 8.0.2

I got an iPhone 6 a couple of days ago and I haven't been able to use iMessage and FaceTime properly since I bought it. The iMessage and FaceTime toggle areas are usually saying "waiting for activation" and sometimes when they activate and everything looks fine, I can send iMessages but I do not receive them at all. Text messages however, are working perfectly but I obviously didn't buy an iPhone to send sms. I have tried reseting network setting and the hard reboot but hey didn't work. Went to the apple store in southampton and even they couldn't help me at all. Can anyone help me here? I'm starting to panic.

I Had same problems messages and FaceTime was not activating. I am in India so, why not try what I did. steps

  1. Switch off iPhone, I have iPhone 6 and IOS 10.2.1
  2. once completely switched off take out sim from tray and re entry sim tray and start iPhone.
  3. ofcourse it will show no services, that's what we want, connect to wifi and activate messages and FaceTime. Worked for me.
  4. once messages and FaceTime are activated, switch off the iPhone completely.
  5. re insert sim in sim tray and restart the iphone normally. Let it latch on to the network. Let it do its stuff. Wait for a few seconds.
  6. once its completely connected to your sim network you will see your messages and FaceTime are working . To test messages send a SMS to yourself, I mean the sim number, it should work fine after that.

Well that's what I did. Hope it helps.

I had this problem a while back, Spending 4 days trying to fix it jumping back and forth from my Carrier to Apple and to the location I bought the phone. Then just before I went into the Apple store for an appointment, it turned out it was my carrier Network that was wrong. I'll share what I had to go through:

Depending on what payment plan you selected, whether it was "Pay and Go" or "Contract". The default in your IPhone 6 is normally for Contract apparently.

For example:

I was on a "Pay and Go" tariff as it just came out, however the phone was on a contract network, so I had to change it.

If anyone are still having problems, another way is to check your Mobile Network Settings are on the correct network for your payment plan.

  1. Settings
  2. Mobile
  3. Mobile Data Network

You can try and contact your Carrier and get them to give you the correct settings:

Mobile Data: / MMS:

  • APN
  • Username
  • Password

Hi All

II'Ve seriously tried every suggestion found on this thread and other forum discussions. I've even changed my SIM card and put my sim into another iPhone - Just to eliminate all possibilities.

My iPhone 6 running on IOS 8.1.2 just wouldn't get iMessage and FaceTime to activate my telephone number. And this morning, after updating my wife's iPhone6 to IOS 8.1.2, BANG - her iPhone's imessage and FaceTime also couldn't activate.

I spoke at length with Apple's tech support, who has been most helpful. He suggested that I speak with my operator.

This is what I gather - whenever iMessage is turned on for the first time, it sends out an SMS to the operator. The local operator will then send a request to Apple server. Apple's server registers the iPhone and respond to the operator. The operator then sends an acknowledgement to the iPhone to activate iMessage and FaceTime.

Somehow, the route to get the activation has glitches, therefore, the iPhone is kept waiting, and waiting.

I hear that there are so many cases of iMessage and FaceTime activation error - same problem in all cases.

I will be happy to share the outcome once my case is resolved.

Hi All,

I've finally figured out how to stop "waiting for activation". But that wasn't the biggest problem for me. For me it was about not having to use my mobile number for iMessage. By not having the tick beside my number, other's receive my email instead of my number. And when I tried every suggestion it fails. I mean EVERY SUGGESTIONS. It keeps not having a tick beside my number instead of my emails and also waiting for activation. I FINALLY SOLVE IT!

So this is what i did;

Step 1

- I go to my old iPhone. The previous phone before my new iPhone 6. Then i put in my sim card and On it.
Realising that i can use my iMessage as my number there and no "waiting for activation". I got this feeling that "Apple have left a memory behind thinking that I'm using my iPhone 5 still as iMessage and so as the memory of my number and it didn't move on".

- Off your Facetime

- Sign out iMessage in your PREVIOUS used iPhone (before your iPhone 6).

- Sign out your iCloud.

Step 2

- Take out your sim card from the previous phone and put it back into your iPhone 6.

- You'll see your number having a tick.

- Untick all your email address in that Send & Receive section by tapping on the email address listed.

- Then go to your iMessage and try sending an iMessage, if it say fail on delivering. It's ok.

Step 3

- Restore your phone to factory setting.

- Once restored. Don't pull it out yet. There will be an option at your iTunes that says that you can back up your phone to the latest back up. Do that.

- Once it's done and your phone is fully restored. It will notify you to add in your iCloud password.

- Just proceed through out then go to your settings > iMessage and check if your number has a tick on it. IT SHOULD HAVE. Then you untick the rest of the email address.

Now you can really choose if you want to message someone using your mobile number or your email address with just a click on that option. And no "waiting for activation".

Thanks,

Herman

This just worked for me, I got it from the following site:

http://appletoolbox.com/apple-help-tips-and-tricks-support-index/facetime-help-t ips/

FaceTime waiting for activation problem fix

Tap Settings > FaceTime > Your Apple ID > Change Location to where your phone number is registered and select the region you are in, then tap Save.

iMessage waiting for activation error fix

Tap Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Your Apple ID > Change Location to where your phone number is registered and select the region you are in, then tap Save.

After these changes, reset your device (by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake (on/off) button and the Home button together until the Apple logo appears). Then your device will reboot. After that, check FaceTime and iMessage to see if your issue is fixed.

I did both of the above and it works fine.
