ios 8 app store updates badge icon not resetting

my iphone 6 is showing on the app store badge icon there are 7 updates available. Opening the app and going to updates, they all appear as OPEN.

I cannot get rid of the icon without resorting to disabling it via notifications under settings.

I updated to ios 8.02 and it still appears. Also tried the trick of tapping a TAB 10 times to refresh the app but the update count reappears soon after.

Have tried to discover any other solution but none available. Dont know if this has been reported to Apple as a bug.

iPhone 6, iOS 8

I have the same problem on (2) 5S phones and a ipad 2. I sync with iTunes they show as updates when I open the App Store then after a few seconds switch to open. if you close out the App Store App and reopen and hit "Download All" before it switches to open the device will re download the Apps and the badge on the icon will disappear until there are more available updates then the issue repeats unless you download the App update on the phone or ipad. This appears to be a glitch of sorts don't know if Apple is aware or not but it's enough to be annoying.

Yes, we have seen this before. This only fixes it temporarily... if you do this, then an app is available for update and an update icon bage appears on your iphone app store icon it will disappear when your PHONE downloads the update ... this fix you proposed has been posted by other above, but it dosent fix the problem. next time there is an update on your app store app icon, please do this (that is if your phone hasnt automatically downloaded the app):

Turn your phone on airplane mode to stop any updates from being downloaded, , open itunes, run updates for apps, download updates, then sync your phone, THEN turn on airplane mode... the update should still be there you can go ahead and sync again, the app will actually update as you can check the version on the phone, but the badge still remains there in the app store until you download it via the phone or device.

solosaint...

Do you mean THEN turn off airplane mode?

You mention twice turning it on... but never turning it off?

And you are also talking about having auto updates off at all times right? (otherwise you'll never get a chance to stop it from updating). Can you clarify? Thanks.

I was saying to turn your phone on airplane mode so it cannot receive updates over the air (via wifi or cell) ... you can turn it on at any time, after you have synced your phone ... the BADGE on the app store will still say you have updates, however the app itself, on your computer and on your phone, will be updated. The only way to get rid of that badge is to update via the phone over the air...

I just experienced this problem and found something that worked, as it's a solution I've used on other such Apple conundrums. I can't guarantee it working for every scenario - but it worked for mine.

When you open the App Store and go to the Updates tab (located on the bottom right), the "Update All" button in the top right hand corner will be blue for a split second. Tap it as soon as you get to that screen before it turns to gray and it *should* activate the update for whatever app(s) need it. Once the update finishes the badge disappeared.

Hope this works for all of you!

yeah, I think this is the 4th time responding that this will work only temporarily ... please read the entire forum before posting a solution that doesn't fix the problem.

AGAIN: Updating your apps via the DEVICE makes the badge go away... HOWEVER... it will return if there are other apps on your device that have a new update, updating via iTunes will NOT make this problem go away, however the app itself WILL be updated, but the BADGE will remain there until you update from the device.

Actually this was a permanent fix for me. Since going through the steps I mentioned above, I have not experienced this problem in about a week's time. And for the record - I did read the entire forum, and nobody explained a similar permanent solution as I did above, hence why I posted it. Never been reprimanded for providing a solution before, but I guess there's a first for everything.

Jpilling and Artiste....

I think we are talking apples (no pun intended) and oranges.

Your fix, is not what everyone else is describing as needing to fix.

If you update over the air (OTA), and not via Itunes... it works as you described.

So to confirm.... the next time you have an update in app store (say 3 apps need updating).... do NOT update over air. Instead, Go to Itunes... Update your apps in iTunes... then plug in your phone... your apps will update on phone.... and the badge icon on phone will NOT disappear/clear (even though the apps are updated on the phone). The red badge will stay that number (i.e. 3), untill you have another app that needs updating.... then it will switch over to that number (i.e. a day later there is 1 app that needs updating, the icon will go from 3 to 1 now).

So to sum it up.... updating from OTA (which you both are doing) works fine... updating the apps in itunes and then syncing phone does not clear the badge icon.

Thanks.

I called Apple few days back and a senior support staff suggested the following steps: close all open apps and then do a force a restart (holding down the power and the home button for over 8 seconds) , then to leave the devices for around 10 hour and then the app store badge will reset. That didn't work for me as I have disabled the Auto Update app feature. In any case even if this solutions worked the apps will simply be re-downloaded by the device again. This is obviously NOT a solution

The whole idea of syncing on iTunes for me is to download the app once ON iTunes and then update it to all my devices without need to re-download the apps for each device and wasting bandwidth (as I am living a country with metered download limits on ADSL).

I believe the problem is with the iTunes and App Store syncing.

I've just updated to 8.1.1 same problem which occurs when syncing updated apps from iTunes to both my iOS devices (iPhone 5s and iPad 3).
