Iphone 5s doesn't ring after IOS 8.0.2 update

IPhone 5s doesn't ring after IOS 8.0.2 update? That is, after muting the phone at night, then unmuting it in the morning. It won't even show an incoming call.

It worked fine after the flawed 8.0.1 update.

However, now, if you go in and change the ring type - Then it WILL ring and answer calls? But before doing that, it won't even show an incoming call.

I feel it's important to document all of the possible reasons an iPhone won't ring. And there are very many solutions here for anyone who runs into this problem. But I discovered that my problem, documented in another forum, was that I had somehow switched off the ringer. Since I have never used the switch which is on the upper left hand corner of my iPhone 5S, I didn't think to check such a simple solution. But thanks to someone suggesting that to someone else, I found that my ringer was switched off. After having tried 6 or 7 different settings, the problem was solved by a simple switch. Thank you for your help. –C

Only had my iPhone 5S for a few weeks before the IOS 8 update. It has rendered my device useless. Have done restore to new ... the thing still won't ring. I have tried everything y'all have suggested here ... I even called Apple only to be told they would replace the phone, but couldn't guarantee the new one wouldn't have IOS 8 .. I am so disappointed in Apple. I think I'll get a droid. Will be watching this thread for updates. Thanks for all the suggestions. My husband's 4S with no update works rings around mine now.

What other troubleshooting have you done, specifically? Saying you've done "everything" doesn't really tell us much. It seems you're giving up too easily. It's not iOS 8, because I have iOS 8 on my 5S, and so do millions of others, and their phones are ringing away just fine. It's something with your specific device that is the issue, so we need to figure out what that is.

Sorry I wasn't specific. I Googled the problem and did everything the first page of answers recommended. Checked the on/off switch on the side. Restarted. Checked to make sure sound settings were all OK. Changed tones. Made sure all the other settings were correct (I can't remember all the settings I checked). I did a restore. I did a factory restore. Made sure volume was at the right level. Cleared favorites off my phone settings. Some calls ring like they should. Some calls never ring. My friends probably think I'm lying, but there is no pattern to what comes through. It rings when it wants to.

And I want to make clear that the phone worked perfectly for the two weeks before I downloaded the update. Maybe millions of other 5Ss work perfectly, but mine doesn't. So disappointed.

Lots of searching on the web and finally found an answer to this (here: http://marcelbrown.com/2014/09/22/ios-8-iphone-6-conditional-call-forwarding/). The iPhone 6 and/or other iPhones running iOS 8 have a problem setting up Conditional Call Forwarding (CCF) on AT&T’s network using the usual **004* CCF code.

  1. Deactivate all Conditional Call Forwarding by entering "##004#", in the default phone app.
  2. To forward busy calls to your Google Voicemail, enter "*67*[Google Voice number]#", in the default voice app (e.g. *67*11234567890#).
  3. To forward unanswered calls to your Google Voicemail, enter "*61*[Google Voice number]#", in the default voice app (e.g. *61*11234567890#).
  4. To forward "out of reach" calls to your Google Voicemail, enter "*62*[Google Voice number]#", in the default voice app (e.g. *62*11234567890#).

More info on call forwarding is here in Wikipedia too, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_forwarding.

Me too with iPhone 5C and Ipad 3 since most recent ios8 update where the Ipad and Iphone were 'linked' so that you could answer your phone on your iPad if it was closer.

Sounds good in theory but I have found that when I am actually using the IPad and a phone call is incoming, it goes straight to the message center. Others have reported a short vibration on the iphone..if it does, I wouldn't know as my Iphone doesn't sit beside me when I am on couch using Ipad.

So I searched and found this fix to UNLINK the phone from the Ipad. Pretty simple ..on ipad SETTINGS>>FACETIME>>DISABLE IPhone Cellular CallsUser uploaded file

http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-disable-phone-calls-on-your-ipad/

I found it annoying as others have posted to have both ringing at same time so this will help alleviate THAT problem and hopefully the non ringing Iphone when I am using the Ipad.

Hope this helps someone else.

ps also, my DND was somehow ON and I too had my phone ring defaulted back to Favourites which is why, when I kept testing my phone to see if it would ring, I called from my land line...it rang...but then of course it was a FAVOURITE!

So I had a bunch of issues....now if only someone..other than ME ...phones me to check it out!
