iPhone 6 Plus Crashing (a lot)

Hi All,

I was hoping for some very detailed advice on getting my iPhone 6 Plus to stop crashing. It's happening many times per day and almost makes using the device futile.

When it arrived, I backed up my old iPhone 5S to iTunes (encrypted) and then restored that backup onto the iPhone 6 Plus. During the restoration everything went smooth, but after it rebooted and began syncing the apps back over, I would hear the phone ping (charge sound) and syncing would pause for a moment. Turns out it was having a mini crash and the Apple logo would appear for a few seconds, then it would start syncing again. No problems or errors were produced on the iPhone or iTunes.

Once restoration was complete (iOS 8.0.2), all of my stuff was there and iTunes still reported 0 errors. But as I used the phone, I would notice some weird stuff:

1) Swiping between app pages quickly would cause the same mini crash and the Apple logo would appear a few seconds before the phone came back up.

2) After launching an app a few times, the "preview" iOS shows when zooming into the app would become the app icon itself (rather than a preview of the app). This would happen for all apps when entering and exiting.

3) Some stock apps (like Calendar) would be missing their icon altogether.

4) The dark area representing a folder would disappear and the tiny icons just looked as if they were floating.

5) Lots more crashing (when using Siri, when just in my pocket, etc).

If you're still reading this, it's obvious I have a problem in my backup that is causing springboard issues (or something). The obvious solution is to restore the phone to factory settings and not reapply the backup, but I have valuable text messages dating back to 2007 that I'd really like to retain. Keeping that in mind, here's what I've tried:

- Restoring from the same iTunes backup again

- Turning off "Documents and Data" in iCloud

- Reset all Settings

- Reset Home Screen Layout

- Restore from slightly older iCloud backup

- Reduce the number of apps being synced over

When I setup as a new phone after restoration, the problem does appear to go away (in the brief amount of time I spent trying to crash it). I really just need some troubleshooting advice I haven't tried that would (at a minimum) allow me to retain the text message conversations and related media (picture and video messages).

Any thoughts that could accomplish this or information on what this problem actually is? I'm willing to supply logs, etc, if that would be useful.

Thanks very much!!

Payton

My backup was stored on my pc ; not in Icloud so the Wi-Fi method referred to by others does not work.

The problem is transferring apps on the iPhone 6 plus - mine is a 128gb - not sure if it applies to other models as well

Apps can be happily transferred from the iPhone to iTunes, but not from iTunes to iPhone.

The solution then download the apps you want direct onto your device again from the app store - (all previous purchases are grouped, and are found on the iPhone in app store > updates > purchased. Once you have downloaded them all to your phone, then it will sync.

It is important to ensure that no apps are marked as "will transfer" before the sync starts

the problem also applies to updates, and new apps purchased - in all cases download to the iPhone first and then sync back to PC.

But I am saying that you get a refurb unit rather than a new factory unit. If you're happy with that, then great. I would not be happy to swap a 2 week old phone for a refurb unit.

I would. I'd rather have one that I know was checked out, individually by an Apple technician who signed off on it being a quality unit without any problems, compared to a mass manufactured one.

I hope your iPhone works again. Mine had needed a lot of time during the update OTA.

I think this is the biggest problem http://www.mactechnews.de/news/article/6-mal-mehr-iPhone-6-verkauft-als-iPhone-6 -Plus-159951.html

At this moment only 1% of all iPhones worldwide are 6 plus'

And if you think about the percent from 6 plus' of all iOS devices.... ^^

It's a software problem. My 6 plus crashes only mostly when I want to open certain apps via Spotlight.

At the moment the biggest problems that I have are with the Apple Store app.

So I believe updates of the certain apps will solve most problems. Since the latest update of On Air there are no crashes when I open it via Spotlight.

It still crashes after upgrading to 8.1

Just called apple hotline asking whether it is possible to replace with another phone. The answer given is NO.

The suggestion given by the technical support is:

1) Set up as a new iPhone. Do not restore from backup.

2) Get back your contacts, calendar, bla bla bla through iCloud.

3) If you wish to restore other app content, e.g. SMS, please forward important messages to a new number. -> What a rubbish solution.

Thanks apple. You just lost a loyal apple product customer.

How does your Iphone 6 crash? Crash during switching apps?

For me, springboard crash after these have happened on 8.0.2:

1) After launching an app a few times, the "preview" iOS shows when zooming into the app would become the app icon itself (rather than a preview of the app). This would happen for all apps when entering and exiting.

2) Some stock apps (like Calendar) would be missing their icon altogether.

3) The dark area representing a folder would disappear and the tiny icons just looked as if they were floating.

4) Capture screen function does not work any more

I have an iphone 5s that works excelent on ios 7.

I restore to ios 8.0.2 and cames the problem... ALL APPS DOWNLOADED FROM APP STORE DO NOT LAUNCH!!!

all native apps works fine, BUT NOT THE STORE APPS,

i have NO facebook, whatsapp, twitter, etc...

i do a complety restore to ios 8.1 from itunes (i dont restore any backup, just put it as a new iphone), then i try to install the apps, and the same problem!!! DIRECTLY THE APPS DO NOT LAUNCH, it makes a crash and go back to the springboard.

Personally i guess apple must re-sign the ios 7.1.2 firmware for those who wants downgrade from 8.x to 7.1.2 because this fuc*ing problems

Why phone became unstable when changing wallpaper too, but then I used "zoom" mode on the display settings and it was more stable. Now I can change wallpaper like underwear.

But I still *can* get a crash in springboard. I have not tried to go to standard mode in 8.1, but I will try later this week when I feel more adventurous. I do like my phone, I would never go to that robot OS.

Now I need to go buy something at Panera bread or Walgreens! I am sure the clerks there will have no idea what I am doing and will think I am trying to hack their POS system. 👿
