iCloud for Windows Version 4.0 Photostream broken

Following the installation of iCloud for Windows Version 4.0 my photostream has stopped updating on my PC. All shared photostreams appear to be fine. My photostream is still working on myother apple devices and apple TV. I have turned my photo stream on and off, uninstalled and re-installed deleted all of the files in the C:/Users/Name/AppData/Roamin/Apple Computer/MediaStream and uninstalled and re-installed. All with no improvement.

Is this a bug in version 4.0?

This seems to be a recurring theme for iCloud infrastructure on the Windows platform. Everytime I install a new update of iCloud Control Panel I fear I will lose the Photostream functionality.

My machine is Windows 64-bit Ultimate and last time was running the iCloud 3.1 an Photostream was working fine. I updated to iCloud 4.0 and the Photostream is broken again... go figure.

I hope Apple starts addressing those issues and bugs and starts to support better the iCloud infrastructure including better testing and especially better regression testing. This theme is coming back all the time in new updates and it's been for years an issue with Photostream on my Windows laptop.

Never an issue with iOS and AppleTV. Only Windows continues to haunt Apple, and now the recent iOS 8.01 bug which was unfortunately and badly timed.

Thanks.

PS. Come on Apple, you can do it better. Please don't become like Microsoft... Please!

I've personally never got it working since 3.0. I've tried all the suggestions, but it is either a no go or downloads maybe 1-2 pictures (randomly between solutions), despite seeing 1000 on all my devices, including the MacBook Pro I just bought a few months ago. If you're gonna delete my photos to keep with the 1000 limit, the least you could do is make it to where I can download them on my PC! I think the new plan is a method to not fix something and make money at it.

I'm having the same problem. My iOS 8.0.2 iPad Mini w/R and iPhone 6+ both share photostreams fine, but my Windows 8.1 PC does not after upgrading the iCloud program. The shared photo stream albums sometimes work... The one my wife shared with me created a folder on my PC and the pictures are there, but the one I created on my phone and invited my family to does not contain any photos.

Taking pictures also does not sync them with my PC like it's supposed to.

I can confirm this is broken. Probably related to the changes that are occurring as the transition to iCloud Drive begins. Tested in Windows 7 and 8.1, files added to My Photo Stream on PC do not sync.

A workaround (if you have a Mac available) is to login to iCloud Photo Stream from iPhoto on a Mac. Once photos are added from the Mac, a PC with the current version of iCloud for Windows installed and logged in with the same Apple ID will sync with Photo Stream. If needed, you may log out of iCloud Photo Stream (if for example, it's not your Mac) and iCloud for Windows will retain and display the images added from the Mac as long as you remain logged in from iCloud for Windows.

Yes, but only in one way.

You need to click on iCloud Photos in the Windows tool bar, then right-click on My Photo Stream and choose "Add photos..."

If you try to add them by dragging to the directory location, as was previously possible, it does not work.

You still need to add from a Mac first and you cannot add photos that are already inside the "My Photo Stream" directory by using the "Add photos..." file open dialog. It will add them, but in a very inconsistent way. For example, I tried clicking "Add photos..." and selected 12 photos that were already in the "My Photo Stream" directory, but only 5 were actually added to My Photo Stream and iCloud for Windows only showed the first of the 12 images I added. However, when I moved the images to the desktop and then added them using "Add photos...", they all appeared in Photo Stream as expected.

This workaround will work until Apple fixes the Windows software issue

You need to add at least one photo uploaded to Photo stream from a Mac first. If you don't have a Mac, login to iCloud on your PC, then either borrow a Mac for two minutes, go to an Apple Store or any other store that sells Macs

1. Make sure you are logged into iCloud on your Windows PC and Photo Steam is enabled

2. Find a Mac (Borrow from a friend or a retailer. You only need 10 minutes or less to do this).

3. Go to System Preferences (The gears icon) or you can select System Preferences...from the Apple menu at the top left of the screen

4. Click on iCloud and log into your iCloud account (uncheck the syncing options)

5. Open iPhoto

6. From the "Share" menu at the top of the screen, click iCloud

7. Click Use iCloud

8. Click on Photos in the toolbar at the left and drag a photo to iCloud under the heading "Shared" in the toolbar

9. Stop sharing and Log Out of iCloud on the Mac (see instruction that follows)

IMPORTANT: When you've copied an image to your iCloud Photo Steam, DON'T FORGET TO STOP SHARING FROM THE MAC AND LOG OUT

a. From the iPhoto menu within iPhoto, select Preferences

b. Click on the iCloud icon in System Preferences

c. Uncheck the "My Photo Stream" box

d. Now go to System Preferences (The gears icon) or you can select System Preferences... from the Apple menu at the top left of the screen

e. Click on iCloud and log out of your iCloud account

IF YOU LEAVE AND FORGET TO LOGOUT! 😮

Change your Apple ID password ASAP

Back at your PC, you need to click on iCloud Photos in the Windows tool bar, then right-click on My Photo Stream and choose "Add photos..."

The problem seems that is solved by itself if you go to Control Panel 4.0:

1. Disable the Photos by uncheking it and Apply

2. Enable the Photos by re-checking it and Apply

Bingo, this forces PhotoStream to work again, kind of like magic... go figure Apple!

So far after doing it my PhotoStream like magic started t work again...

Hope this works for the other folks as it worked for me... at least for a while...

I am working on Windows 7 Pro x64 and Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and also have these issues. I've tried uninstalling iCloud and reinstalling, and also have tried deselecting Photos in the dashboard, applying, and re-selecting it. Also, I've tried changing the location...All to no avail.

Any help on this would be appreciated. I have no access to a mac computer to try the workaround mentioned above.

I had the same issue - the only way I could get Photostream to work again was -

- DELETED all the photos in My Photo Stream album on my iPhone

- DELETED the "My Photo Stream" directory on my windows PC (the directory where iCloud 4.0 saves my Photo Stream pictures)

- Opened iCloud 4.0 in windows and deselected photos

- logged out of iCloud 4.0

- rebooted Windows PC

- On iPhone went into iCloud and disabled My Photo Stream

- rebooted iPhone

- Went back into iCloud 4.0 in Windows and enabled Photo's

- on iPhone went into iCloud and enabled My Photo Stream

Then all my NEW photo's started to synch properly again.
