iCloud for Windows Version 4.0 Photostream broken

Following the installation of iCloud for Windows Version 4.0 my photostream has stopped updating on my PC. All shared photostreams appear to be fine. My photostream is still working on myother apple devices and apple TV. I have turned my photo stream on and off, uninstalled and re-installed deleted all of the files in the C:/Users/Name/AppData/Roamin/Apple Computer/MediaStream and uninstalled and re-installed. All with no improvement.

Is this a bug in version 4.0?

daddydynamite posted a different solution that worked for me when the other solution didn't. Here's his post:

Turn off icloud, then right click the icloud icon in start menu, select properties and set compatibility mode to windows 7. restart icloud and photos should sync.

"Thanks for your help with the horribly broken photo stream component of icloud, Apple software engineers" said no one, ever.

I hope one or the other work for you!

I've tried everything suggested online, both in these forums and elsewhere, to fix this. Absolutely nothing has worked for me.

It boggles my mind that Apple are so disinterested in fixing this software. It's been problematic for the last four years at least (I haven't bothered looking at anything prior to 2011) but nowhere have I once seen an official Apple response or admission that there are problems.

Useless.

To be fair, apart from the uploading issue they had with it about a year ago the service has worked perfectly for me. No issues at all and I use it everyday on my iDevices and PC's at work and home.

It takes them ages to fix things but they do get there in the end. I will still continue to use Match as 99% of the time it works flawlessly. Ok so this issue is annoying but doesn't prevent any of us using the service.

I spent about 10 hours on this problem a few months ago. I have windows 8.1 and photostream on an iPhone 6. The photostream has stopped syncing twice with my PC. I reinstalled iTunes (didn't work). I ended up calling apple because I didn't feel confident enough deleting files as suggested in the community. I think that the communication gets broken when certain updates happen. I signed out of the Icloud panel and signed back in. When I signed out, I get a warning because I use my iCloud contacts on my PC, but then all of the contacts repopulated and my photostream is working again! This has worked for me twice now.

I really need some assistance here. I am having all the same problems that people here are, although daddydynamite's solution did not work for me. I'm running Windows 7 64bit with icloud 4.1. I know next to nothing about how Apple's software works.

So I had a bunch of pictures on my ipad, which I wanted to get off the ipad. I could not figure out how because when you connect the ipad to your PC itunes auto-runs it and you cannot pull photos off an ipad onto a PC using itunes (because Apple products are incompetent). So I decided to enable icloud on the ipad to attempt to pull them off using icloud - but then realized that though you can download them from icloud.com, you can only download them ONE AT A TIME, which is ridiculous, but no surprise given the mantra Apple = incompetent. Ok, so there is this photostream feature that should sinc all the photos, which we all here know is an epic fail.

Then I realized that if you disable itunes you can get your PC to use the ipad as if it were a camera, and pull the photos off as files. Great! The only problem is that icloud seems to have physically removed 90% of the pictures from my ipad AUTOMATICALLY because they are now on icloud. So I can no longer directly access them via PC -> USB -> ipad. Ok, so to summarize:

(1) I cannot access the photos using photosteram, because it is broken.

(2) I cannot access them via USB to the ipad, because icloud auto-deleted them from the ipad to store them in the cloud.

(3) There are too many pictures to download manually, one by one, from icloud.com.

How the **** am I supposed to get my pictures?????!!!!!!!!!

Someone please help me... (never buying Apple again ... breath ... never buying Apple again ... breath ...)

Is there a way to force the photos back onto the ipad?

I'm not sure how to solve you iCloud problem, but for the future, it's very easy to get your pictures from you iPad/iPhone to your PC.

Here's what i do:

1. First, turn off whatever automatic thing you have going on with iTunes. I'm not clear what set up you have and where it is putting your photos, but turn it off. (I don't mean turn off iCloud, I mean turn off what happens when you plug it into iTunes)

2. If you want to move your photos using a USB cable, plug it in and open Windows explorer (window key + E). in the file tree on the left you should see your I device. Doubleclick the device name to open it and you should see photo/video golders. Open each one of them to select and drag and drop the photos/videos you want to copy to your PC. (This only copies them, you can also select and delete them off your device from within Explorere when you are done).

3. If you want to move your photos over wifi, you'll need to install an app to do that. I use "Photosync" and love it.

Good luck!
