iCloud for Windows Version 4.0 Photostream broken

Following the installation of iCloud for Windows Version 4.0 my photostream has stopped updating on my PC. All shared photostreams appear to be fine. My photostream is still working on myother apple devices and apple TV. I have turned my photo stream on and off, uninstalled and re-installed deleted all of the files in the C:/Users/Name/AppData/Roamin/Apple Computer/MediaStream and uninstalled and re-installed. All with no improvement.

Is this a bug in version 4.0?

I too was unable to get 4.0 to work with the regular photostream. The shared ones were fine. After a lot of fooling with it I finally got it working again with version 3.1. The process that finally worked was uninstalling iCloud control panel and renaming the MediaStream folder in C:\Users\YOUR USER\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer folder then installing iCloud control panel version 3.1. So far its still working after several days and I have not yet upgraded back to 4.0.

I am having issues using iCloud 4.0 on Windows 8.1 64-bit as well.

What does go well? This:

  • iCloud installation did complete without any problems. Restarted PC afterwards.
  • iCloud Photos and iCloud Drive folders visible through explorer. Inside them are "shared", "my photostream" and "uploads". Together with some desktop.ini files
  • Photos taken with my iPad or iPhone show up in My Photostream and iCloud.com within seconds
  • Removing photos from iPad or iPhone also deletes them in My Photostream and iCloud.com withing seconds

Then what goes wrong? This:

  • Adding pictures to My Photostream by drag-and-drop with file1.jpg, doesn't show up on my iPad nor iPhone, nor iCloud.com
  • Adding pictures to My Photostream by clicking "Add photos" button (file2.jpg), even hours later...doesn't show up on my iPad nor iPhone nor iCloud.com
  • Both pictures file1.jpg and file2.jpg do appear in the iCloud Photos (My photostream) folder on my PC
  • Both pictures file1.jpg and file2.jpg also remain inside the Uploads folder (inside iCloud Photos)
  • Upon deleting them in the upload folder they still remain inside the My photostream folder
  • But nothing gets ever uploaded.

What did I allready try and does not solve the uploading problem? This:

  • Uninstalling iCloud 4.0 and reinstalling with administrator privilages
  • Uninstalling iCloud 4.0, reinstalling without administrator privilages
  • Uninstalling iCloud 4.0, reinstalling, logging in to iCloud 4.0, logging out, logging back in
  • Uninstalling iCloud 4.0, reinstalling, logging in to iCloud 4.0, disable photos "sharing"
  • Uninstalling iCloud 4.0, reinstalling, logging in to iCloud 4.0, disable photos "sharing", logging out, logging back in
  • Uninstalling iCloud 4.0, disabling firewall and antivirus, installing iCloud 4.0 (upload try without any firewall or virus protection)
  • Uninstalling iCloud 4.0, reinstalling, removing all desktop.ini files
  • Using smaller size images (50kb, 200kb)

So far nothing solves the problem where images I add through windows actually get uploaded to My Photostream to be viewed on my iPad, iPhone or iCloud.com.

Find and install iCloud control panel version 3.1 as stated above. That seems to still be working on Windows 8.1 32bit PC. My other laptop (Windows 8.1 64bit) had control panel 4.0 and was working fine. Cant test it since iOS 8.1 because I am waiting on a motherboard for it at the moment. But when I tried to install control panel 4.0 on this backup laptop (32bit) the above stated issue occurred with PhotoStream. Basically just don't have iCloud drive with version 3.1 and I wasn't using that anyway.

Same issue here... running Windows 8.1.

Today I realized my photos hadn't synced in about a month, so I tried logging out of iCloud and logging back in. That worked in terms of getting new photos to sync, but now:
a) I'm missing about ten photos that are shown in iCloud on my phone, but won't show up on the computer

and

b) I hate how the photo stream won't show any of the previous pictures I've taken. If I want to see older pictures, now it takes more steps to get to them. Ridiculous.

Thing is, a lot of these suggestions have been around since 3.0 and you have a 50/50 chance of them working, and if it works, working temporarily. Going back to 3.1 from 4.0 suggestion doesn't always work because 3.1 had the same problem with me and going back to 3.0 didn't work and going from 3.0 to 2.1 didn't work and I'm sure when 4.1 comes out a suggestion will be to go back to 4.0. Not saying it doesn't work, but not 100%. Turning it on/off is a temporary solution, it will break itself later. Uninstalling/reinstalling again is temporary if it works at all (another 50/50). Firewall seems logical, but then why does the other folders sync perfectly? Since the problem has been there since at least 2.1 then I'm more inclined to say it is on their end, not ours.

Common issues:

1. Doesn't sync the photo stream folder, but syncs the shared folders.

2. If it does sync the photo stream folder, only a few or most recent (just took a pic) downloads.

3. Upload folder is sporadic. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't upload to photo stream.

4. iDevices have no problem with using photo stream. Everything is functional between the devices.

I have lost quite a few photos because of the 1000 photo limit and not being able to retrieve them before they were automatically deleted; some of my eldest daughter as a baby at Disney World. If I restore a device to factory because of a glitch in iOS, I'm only able to retrieve 30 days of those on the device while the older ones float in limbo until deleted automatically when I take a new picture. Now I have to pay to keep those pictures (I have over 5gb) that I can't retrieve on my computer to back them up. This problem has been around since early 2013 and many people have complained of the exact things and nothing official has been released except a new version that doesn't address the issue. Every suggestion to fix it comes from community experience (hence why no 100% fix exists).

Sorry for the griping, just very frustrated that this still hasn't been fully fixed. Everyone giving suggestions are doing great and are doing Apple's job. They should get their "geniuses" together and fix the problem instead of finding ways to limit the users and make profits off that limit because the users have no choice. Every cloud service I use has an ability to log in on the web and download your files. But this, you can only access with an iDevice, Mac, or working iCloud Control Panel on a PC if you're lucky. Again, thanks for the suggestions and I'm glad they work for some, but there are those like me looking for a solution that works for them. It is sad this program has enough bugs to where several fixes exist for the same problem.

Kind of a side question pertaining to this; does anyone know a a windows program that can access photo stream and download all of the photos in it? We need something until this is fully fixed. I don't like third-party solutions because that's another program to install and they usually cost, but I honestly can't afford to keep loosing photos until it's fixed.

My photosteam seemed to work until I installed IOS 8 on my Iphone. No pictures are that synced but maybe not related. Tried everything. I also got it working once and got 5 photos and then stopped and nothing seemed to help.

I finally got it working so may want to try these in reverse order as maybe not all needed. BTW I have Windows 7 Home Premium on 64 bit ASUS X53E

1 - removed Icloud with control panel

2- Downloaded and installed safari for windows

3- Updated ITunes to version 12 (latest), launched it and exited it

4 - Downloaded Icloud and ran install as admin

5 - Have all the apples exe run as admin Applephotstreams, ApplePhotoSteamsDownloader, ereporter, Icloud, Iclouddrive, IcloudServices,Icloudweb

6- Started Icloud and turned off the photo checkmark, applied it, and then shut down

7- Cut all photos out of my Photo Stream folder and pasted to a backup folder

8- Restarted Icloud and checked the photo box. Photos started downloadning and had all. New files added also worked.

Only after the last 3 steps did everything seem to work fine with no errors in log file. Even new photos get there.

I will now try to remove so of the items and reboot to see which of steps 1-5 really needed. Look for later post.

Mine has been broken for several months, I actually just noticed it last week. There were no pictures populating in Photo Stream on my PC. I uninstalled iCloud software and re-installed it, then 5 out of the 60 photos sync'd. I did notice an error on the bottom right corner of the computer, it said unable to communicate with the iCloud servers.... I guess I can try and call tech support and see what they tell me.

MMine stopped syncing the moment I updated to version 4 when apple announced the availability of iCloud Drive for windows. Took me about a week to notice no more photos coming in and I couldn't share from my windows PC anymore either. Been trying to fix it ever since. No luck. Like I said the best I can do is delete the folder in appdata/roaming and then a fee photos come in and then it stops again.

see my post from yesterday. Seems to be working then. I removed Safari for windows and it still worked. I removed the run as admin from all the exec and it broke again.

Recommendations:

= On Iphone settings, icloud, photos turn on Icloud Photo Library (Beta). Then from internet can go to icloud.com and confirm pictures are there

= for the properties in program files (x86) common files, apple, internet services, change all to run as admin asl mentioned above

= delete or move all pictures in icloud photos, My Photo Stream

= Launch Icloud uncheck all that are checked except photo, apply

= your folder should populate

= for computer restarts do not sign out of icloud that will break it and you will need to delete all pictures again to get it going again

= after a restart just launch Icloud again, if done correctly you should already have same settings as before, if not you did something wrong and need to delete all files again

Hope this works for you. I upgraded ITunes to version 12 but not sure that was required either.
