The Mac Bluetooth is not designed to connect to iPhones as it is for things like speakers, keypads, earphones and such only.

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) with OSX 10.10 and just got my iPhone 6 which is on iOS 8.1, everything is up to date and current. My iPhone pairs with but won't connect to my MBP with BT. Most of the time it just won't connect, sometimes it says that my MBP/iPhone isn't supported. Stupid thing is, same laptop with an iPhone 5/iOS 8.1 it worked fine. Continuity/SMS forwarding is one of the best things about this update for me (aside form generally) and the fact that it isn't working is pretty annoying.

It *could* have something to do with having had my iPhone 5 linked previously and set up, I wonder if there's a way to remove that relationship and if that might be contributing to this issue.

Besides the iPhone 6, I have an iPad mini (Retina) but i cannot even pair the iPad mini with my Macbook Retina (mid 2012 with BT 4.0).

A friend of mine that hold a Macbook identical to min (mid 2012 identical to mine) told me yesterday that his Macbook Retina is pairing correctly with his iPhone 5.

Definitely i think that Yosemite 10.10 has still some problem with bluetooth on Macbook Retina when pairing with other devices (like iphone 6 / ipad mini...) under some circumstances.

Someone said that the problem arise if you make an update from Maverick, and the problem is not present with a 'clean install' of Yosemite...but i think this is not sure, and especially is not a good excuse for not working (almost all user update from maverick...)

I hope that next Yosemite / IOS release will fix these problems...

I just chatted with Apple tech support about this issue (Robert was awesome, btw - case #686703003 in case anyone from Apple reads this). The only thing we really did was to confirm that it was set up correctly and then to log out of iCloud on my MBP and then back in again. Since then, it's been working fine. Even without being paired, continuity features now work and even SMS forwarding works fine as well.

I had upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite and then connected my iPhone 5 to my MBP and set up continuity on it once I'd upgraded to iOS 8 (and then SMS forwarding when I got iOS 8.1). My iPhone 5 had been paired with my MBP. When I paired my iPhone 6, I removed my iPhone 5 but it was still listed in the system report. I also removed my iPhone 5 from my devices on iCloud as well. Once I'd logged out and back into iCloud on my MBP, the reference to my iPhone 5 in the bluetooth section of system report was gone.

My iPhone 6 is now working as expected with all handoff/continuity stuff even though it isn't currently paired with my MBP according to the bluetooth control panel. It shows up in my wifi menu for auto-hotspot as well.

So, if you haven't already, you may want to try the following:

Make sure both devices are connected to the same wifi network

Both devices are signed into iCloud

Your mac has handoff support enabled (system prefs > general)

Your iPhone has handoff support enabled (system prefs > handoff)

Log out and back into icloud on your devices

Hope it works for you guys as well.

Looks like there is a bug in the iOS8 for iPhone 4s. Although the handoff feature is supported in iPhone 4s, I cant get to see the enable disable toggle in the iPhone general settings.

Besides, pairing the blutooth on Macbook air Yosemite and iPhone 4s 8.02 dons seem to work. I tried logging out and logging back in on icloud but no luck. Can see handoff in my MBA with Yosemite.

Did you try this? :

To use Continuity for SMS and MMS on your iPad, iPod touch, and Mac:

  • Update your iPhone to iOS 8.1 (when available).
  • Enable iMessage on your Mac and iOS devices.
  • On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages and turn on Text Message Forwarding.
  • Your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac will display a code you can enter on your iPhone to verify the SMS and MMS feature.

Read this article as it explains Handoff/Continuity in detail. Not everything is available on the 4S:

Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity

FelipeV,

Thanks Mate, it worked. However, quick observations

1. The old Messages wont "sync" only new ones get added

2. When the phone rings, it takes quite a while before it rings on the mac using face time I guess

3. I cant make any outgoing calls using the mac.

Do you have any idea on this. But thank you very much at least I was able to get started on it 🙂
