Ipad Air random reboot on ios 8.0.2

I purchased a brand new Ipad Air, and upgraded it to ios 8.0.2. Since then, I am facing random reboots, after seeing a blue screen for a split second. I took it to the service centre, where they clearly said that it is an OS issue. When is the patch for this coming up. Is it really an OS issue?

Try some basic troubleshooting:

(A) Try reset iPad

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

(B) Try reset all settings

Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

(C) Setup as new (data will be lost)

Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

THis happened to me too. I was able to restore my ipad by putting it in Recovery Mode and doing a Restore. Put your ipad in Recovery Mode by pressing the Power, Home and both volume buttons at the same time. So basically you're pressing all four buttons at the same time until your iPad goes into Recovery Mode (which shows Connect to iTunes graphic). You can then Restore your iPad and then Restore from Backup.

The problem seems to a crash that iOS calls "panic.ips", with debugger message "WDT timeout". I have no idea what it seems but I hope this helps Apple fix the issue. To help Apple, switch on Automatically Send (in Settings, Privacy, Diagnostics 7 Usage) to send diagnostic info to Apple, so that they will receive these crash logs automatically.

Go to Settings, Privacy, Diagnostics & Usage and Diagnostic & Usage Data. There you will see one line for each time your iOS device crashed, with the format [some code]-[date]-[time].panic.ips", for example [some code]--10-02-2304444.panis.ips".

Tapping on it gives a long log, but there seem to be some hints what could have caused the crash:Debugger message: WDT timeout

According to the list, my iPad has crashed 21 times in the four days since September 29, which is a few days after I upgraded to iOS 8.0.2.

Please help Apple fix the issue, and confirm that you have the same problem. Switch on Automatically Send diagnostic info to Apple, so that they will receive these crash logs automatically.

Yes. Welcome to the Apple experience. "It just works!"

I had this problem first on installing IOS8. The iPad became unusable because of the constant reboots. I went through the whole restore/reset/start again process and ended up in the same place. Meanwhile I was doing all the app updates as they came. Then it all settled for a while and the reboots became less frequent. Then after 8.0.2 it all started up again. I am wondering if there is an app we all use that performs tasks in the background which causes this issue. I did have 'Background App Refresh' completely disabled for a while but re-enabled. I've now turned it off again as I'm having reboots & will see what happens over time.

Another constant problem is apps just closing with no error message while you are using them. I had that problem with my iPhone4 ages ago & it is still present with my iPad Air. When you have bugs like these in a product that persist for years, then you have a serious problem.

So yes, sitting & waiting is all we do. Keep doing app updates. Hope for the best...

It really seems to be an iPad (Mini) issue. My 3-year old iPhone 4S is also running iOS 8.0.2 and has never crashed. Also, there a few more threads on this ("More like this" below) and they all mention the iPad

Has anyone tried to use iTunes on a computer to back up and restore from there? This will give you a clean install of 8.0.2. In contrast, if you installed iOS 8.0.2 via an over-the-air update, it was a so-called delta update replacing only part of the original iOS 8.0 code, and this may have introduced some conflicts. Compare this to patching up a tire versus installing a brand new one. A recent post on daringfireball.net linked to a similar issue (http://verynicewebsite.net/2014/08/a-tale-of-two-restores/), where a complete restore from iTunes freed up gigabytes of space that was shown as used after a simple over-the-air update.

As for myself, I installed iOS 8.0 from my PC and iTunes and had no rebooting issues with my iPad Mini. Installed iOS 8.0.2 over-the-air and have the rebooting issue. Unfortunately I am traveling and do not have a PC with iTunes nearby to back up and restore with iTunes. Has anyone tried this?
