iPhone 6 plus crashes when I download, update or delete any apps

I just got my iPhone 6 plus 128 gb (iOS 8.0.2) on Friday (9/26/14) I started it as a new phone and used it for a day and it all worked fine as far as I could tell (there weren't many apps I tried, but the couple I downloaded to test seemed to work out). I backed up my iPhone 5s 64 gb and then restored the new phone to that backup and have had nothing but problems since. Every time I download, update or delete any app the phone crashes. The white apple appears and it takes a few minutes for it to turn back on. I have repeated this error at least 50 times now and it happens every time. Sometimes it will crash if I try to do too many things in too short a period of time as well. I understand that this is a new phone and a new version of the operating system and glitches are to be expected. I'm not looking to complain so much as I am just looking for some hope that this can be resolved. I have read of similar issues and the consensus seems to be that I will have to start over as a new device and download the apps individually from scratch. This is really not a great option for me though. This is my 5th iPhone (6th if you count the 5s and ran through the washing machine in February) and I have a lot of information saved from over the years that I don't really want to lose. I have already tried re-restoring it from the backup and it's the same result. I don't know, maybe they'll fix it with another update. fingers crossed.

They are in Settings, Privacy, Diagnostics.

If you sync with iTunes, they transfer to your PC.

On a PC, open Windows Explorer, and navigate to the following: C:\Users\ user name \AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\ device name \. In the Device Name folder you will find all your Crash Logs. Copy your Device Name folder to your desktop, then compress it into a zipped folder so it is small enough to send to Apple.

I have no idea about Macs, but it should be similar.

I would like to say something before iOS 8.1 may be released in a few hours.

I have the whole week so far only then crashes when I want certain apps open on Spotlight. I can reconstruct it at irregular intervals. In my case the problem occur with the app "On Air". And WhatsApp makes sometimes some trouble.

It may be that to solve these issues has to do with the number of installed apps and the free storage and is therefore justified to a large extent in iOS 8. But faulty apps should also be taken into account as a cause.

I stand by my view that the opening of the iOS is the main cause.

Once the apps and widgets are adjusted, the problems became smaller. At times as a jailbreak yet made a certain sense you could notice such crashes and also the disappearance of the crashes after update Cydia Tweaks diverse. Surely Apple must fix the problem by limiting the number of installed app.

You need Apple Support to send you an email requesting the files. They can then be uploaded.

I cannot stress enough how important it is that all of you report the issue to Apple technical support. Insist on deal with a Senior Advisor.

I am dealing with a dedicated senior advisor regarding my issue. He is one I sent my crash logs to. He is also the only person I now deal with about this issue - saves having to repeatedly explain the problem to new junior advisors who will simply run through the standard trouble shooting script with you. He is also the person who is liaising with the iOS software engineers.

The other thing is that if you have your phone swapped out for a "new one" at an Apple store, you are getting a refurb device (like my phone when it is returned to Apple, will be check and given to someone else).

Dealing with Apple support at a senior level means you can ask for a BRAND NEW factory phone to be sent to you, from China.

Apple have not had many of these reports at that level. My advisor was unaware of a single similar complaint to mine.

You can of course see as it corresponds to their own opinion.

Either get the existing hardware can not cope with the existing software or the existing software can not cope with the existing hardware.

I have since the first iPhone and the first iPad extensive experience with jailbreaks and system crashes because of them and a lot of tweaks. And it was never a hardware defect fault.

It was always only faulty software.

Everything that Apple has integrated already existed as Cydia tweaks. Intelliscreen, the multitasking view, widgets in notification center, swipe gestures etc.

And almost always, it came at the beginning to crash. Over and over again. Until it was appropriate adjustments and updates of the tweaks.

Now, why is 6 plus the 128GB variant particularly affected?

For the same reason why the back camera of the iPad 2 Air does not protrude from the enclosure as in iPhone 6 and 6 plus.

Because each model variant can be seen as a completely separate system.

If we compare in this thread a list of our installed apps with each other, we would very likely see the parallels. I can by now reconstruct partially.

I am absolutely convinced that there is no hardware defect.

Also for the reason that we have not devices from the same batch under any circumstances.

We live on different continents and got the devices in different delivery waves.

Certainly the hardware has a problem with some software.

Or some software has problems with the hardware. It's like any computer. Why iOS has been run as smoothly? Because it was less fragmented than Android. But in 2010 there were just two screen sizes and resolutions. Today, iOS 8 runs on devices with six different screen sizes and six different resolutions. And all the apps just as well. The remaining internal hardware components I leave now times overlooked.

Here's the problem. Each app must be adapted to each model exactly. There are thousands of processes running simultaneously in the foreground, and above all in the background.

The key is the software.

If anyone here but is of the opinion that a hardware defect would be: good luck.

I am very sure you are correct. I too have always suspected an iOS bug. But it is necessary to disprove the faulty hardware possibility, so that Apple can focus on the remaining possibilities i.e. software. Their next question will be whether it is some faulty apps, or a true iOS bug. The problem is that so few people have reported this problem to Apple.

Well, I'm very sure too. 😉

After my last post I found this on a German website:

http://www.giga.de/smartphones/iphone-6-plus/tests/iphone-6-plus-im-langzeittest -teil-4-ios-8/

"...the Achilles heel is the software."

So, I see that a lot of users have iOS 8 problems on their new devices.

I'm excited for the expirience on the iPad Air 2 next week. 😉

One thing I forgot to tell about in all my posts.

On the iPhone 5s I had a bug til I got my new 6 plus. Sometimes when I opened any camera app there came the white apple crash. It was not importand if I start the camera from lockscreen or homescreen. And this bug had no systematic. And I remember that under some iOS versions this bug occured less. On others more often. So it was very annoying when you just wanted to make a snapshot and the iOS crashed. When it was ready again the moment was over.

And my iPhone 5 was very very sensitive in winter when it was very cold and the battery was on ca. 30%.

So, no device and software is absolutly perfect.

But iOS 8.1 should run a little bit more stable. Please.

Oct 18, 2014 8:04 AM in response to MarcOliver

Thanks, however the German website does not comment on this particular bug unfortunately.

I personally found my iPhone 5 to be completely stable. I cannot even remember the last time it crashed. My iPad Air was reasonably stable, with around 1 crash per month.

One other BIG disappointment is we still have no multi screen feature in iOS8.1. But I want Apple to concentrate on this major crash problem first.

My backup was stored on my pc ; not in Icloud so the Wi-Fi method referred to by others does not work.

The problem is transferring apps on the iPhone 6 plus - mine is a 128gb - not sure if it applies to other models as well

Apps can be happily transferred from the iPhone to iTunes, but not from iTunes to iPhone.

The solution

- restore your phone normally

- then download the apps you want direct onto your device again from the app store - (all previous purchases are grouped, and are found on the iPhone in app store > updates > purchased. Once you have downloaded them all to your phone, then it will sync.

It is important to ensure that no apps are marked as "will transfer" before the sync starts the problem also applies to updates, and new apps purchased - in all cases download to the iPhone first and then sync back to PC.

I have the same problem. I have an Iphone 6 - 128 GB, it randomly reboots.
The screen flash in Blue then Red and then the phone reboots with the apple logo.
At least two or three times the phone has gotten unresponsive and I have had to force reboot the phone.

I have tried setup as new phone, and this does not help...

I think I will try to have it replaced later this week when I have the time, but they could not give me a new phone I have to send it in for service and wait about 10 days for the phone to be repaired...

Perhaps there is some kind of hardware errors on the 128 GB series?

Oct 22, 2014 12:29 PM in response to JasHayre

i have ONLY 1 APP INSTALLED AND DIDNT WORK AT ALL

I have an iphone 5s that works excelent on ios 7.

I restore to ios 8.0.2 and cames the problem... ALL APPS DOWNLOADED FROM APP STORE DO NOT LAUNCH!!!

all native apps works fine, BUT NOT THE STORE APPS,

i have NO facebook, whatsapp, twitter, etc...

i do a complety restore to ios 8.1 from itunes (i dont restore any backup, just put it as a new iphone), then i try to install the apps, and the same problem!!! DIRECTLY THE APPS DO NOT LAUNCH, it makes a crash and go back to the springboard.

Personally i guess apple must re-sign the ios 7.1.2 firmware for those who wants downgrade from 8.x to 7.1.2 because this fuc*ing problems

Looks like someone is paying attention to this issue:

http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/10/23/iphone-6-plus-users-report-persistent- unexplained-crashing-issues-possibly-tied-to-large-app-libraries

I'm still having problems, but they are not as persistent as they were in the beginning. I did have to delete over 100 apps to get it to start acting like it is now though. I'm at around 850 at this point. I know that I need to get serious about deleting some more, but I don't want to have to do that. Oh well, at least my new phone is pretty.

BTW, there are a lot of things about iOS 8 that I really like.

iPhone 6 plus crashes when I download, update or delete any apps
