Defective Iphone 6 screens?

Can anyone tell me if there is a defect in Iphone 6 screens?

I have had this phone all of 4 days and it is broken! It did not survive a 2 foot impact from a 32g spice bottle. I do not understand how there are videos showing the screen surviving hammers, waist and head high drops! I feel so deceived thinking this product was going to be better than the 4S that I upgraded from. (long story but the 4S survived 2 years without a scratch to the screen.. dropped numerous times) I checked the apple services and they want me to charge me 297 euros (we are in France) to mail-in a repair.

Yes, people wrote about this issue here few times. Just check previous messages.

Because of some reason petermac87 and few others in most cases reply that everything is fine with the phone and it's only the user's fault that screen shattered.

Well let's be realisitc here. The poster doesn't say if the phone was in a case or had a screen protector on. The poster doesn't say where the phone resides (pants pocket maybe?). There are so many variables with how someone takes carae of their phone. But one things for sure. iPhones rarely if ever develop crackes screens all by themselves. There has to have been some stress applied to the phone along the way. And if this was a common issue, this thread would likely be much longer than 13 pages, most of which are posts from very few people who have actually had an issue with their phone's screen.

I just posted some details I have from my personal experience based on our corporate statistics.

It was removed "because it was speculative" based on Apple Support Communities Staff understanding.

I have another opinion regarding my deleted post but can do nothing here. As usual 🙂

I tried to summarize experience I've got. And it's technical in my opinion.

About iPhone 6:

1. Screen size is bigger - more chance to damage it in case of drop, due to square of the screen is bigger

2. Screen is very thin under home button - weak point confirmed in this discussion few times

3. Device is thinner along with bigger screen compare to previous generations - so it's easier to damage screen by stress (just simple physics, nothing else).

So no questions why screen question is more highlighted for iPhone 6.

I got iPhone 6 few months back and the screen's cracked the second time! The first drop was a slip from the hand when taking out of the pocket while sitting on a chair (about 0.5m high) and the entire screen cracked. The second drop was a slip from the hand while sitting on a low chair (about 30cm high) and the part below home button cracked. Both cases, the phone was with a cover and the second time with a screen protector as well. The third time phone dropped on it's back with the cover and the crack below home button propagated. Now the entire screen is cracked! I'm fully responsible for the drops but the build quality ***** compared to iPhone 4S. The 4S dropped a number of times ad survived two years without a scratch.

Sorry to say but Apple has deteriorated after Steve. If the larger screen size compromised quality they should have fixed it before building the phones. I had the impression Apple would never build something unless they perfected it but not anymore. I still love the design and many aspects of the phone but it doesn't feel like a premium product anymore. I don't feel great owning an Apple product like I used to. In the words of Steve, those that have changed the world that aren't living, if they ever used a computer, it would have been a Mac. It really seems like Apple has moved away from this core value. I love the products, they are definitely better than others in the market but not the best. It seems like something needs to be fixed somewhere if Apple has to be what it was before.

I doubt there's a shareholder on the planet who would agree with your sentiment. It's unfortunate you have dropped your phone twice and the screen cracked, but iPhone screens have cracked from drops since the dawn of iPhone.

Channeling Steve Jobs is simply uncalled for. He was not immune to issues with Apple products, anymore than Tim Cook is today.

In the last quarter, Apple recorded record profits and high shareholder value. You asserting they should become who they were, doesn't make any sense, unless you think they should make less money, or have fewer products. For the vast majority of users however, iPhone 6 has been a well built, solid, excellent performing device.

I thought I would give an update.... Apple did replace my second phone with no charge. The genius who worked on my case was baffled by the tiny cracks too.

Just to reiterate.... These cracks are not like what you see in most cases, in fact they are very hard to see at all. They are under the glass, so you cannot feel them with your fingernail. They are also very ver very small. You might not even see them without looking closely or knowing what you are looking for. I think these tiny cracks led to the first phone breaking on carpet impact because it was too unstable. There may be some who had shattered phones and didn't even realize the tiny cracks beforehand.

If people are dropping their phones and they crack, well, it's glass. These cracks are different, and I have never seen them on the other 7 versions of the iPhone I've used. I do not trust the ion X glass, which is one major reason I went with sapphire on my Apple Watch.

I hope that helps clarify a bit more.

I have been running with my iPhone for more than 5 years, first a three then a 4 and now a 6, each one strapped to my upper arm. I have run through rain storms, snow and heat and never had a problem with the 3 or 4. Well, one, the 3 did not always recognize that the ear plugs had been pulled out and I had to clean out the hole with a q-tip. I have been running with the 6 now since February (a lot less due to injury too) and last week the screen started acted bizarre and not responsive. Today the store tells me there is extensive water damage. This should not happen. Bent phones, cracked screens etc. I agree the quality of the manufacture of the phone has degraded and Apple needs to step up to the plate and do something about it.

i have an iPhone 6 that is only a few weeks old, i bought it for my wife. a few days ago she took it out to use it from her purse, and the screen was broken with a hairline crack that is almost invisible. she noticed it when she was cleaning the screen and the light hit it at a certain angle. she has not dropped the phone, also it has a an otter box protector and a screen protector. we still can't bigger how that happened. The only thing we can think of is that its internal stress. the screen protector doesn't even have a mark on it.
