I have this issue as well and think I got to the root of the problem. My song was in the As on the sort list and showing as a V. It was not even on my device but was itunes purchased and showing in the cloud. I went to settings to turn off viewing cloud songs and saw a little slider for group by album artist. I turned that off and problem solved as the song was from a Various Artists album. Hope this might help someone else with a quick solution that appears to be a glitch in this sorting.

Interesting, I have "Group By Album Artist" turned ON and I don't have this issue with my "Various Artists" compilation albums showing up in the wrong places. If you're using "Various Artists" in the Album Artist field, make sure you're also selecting the "Part of a Compilation" setting in the song's tag, perhaps that is the problem.

FWIW, mine is an iPhone 5 with 8.0.2, not a 6 but someone above indicated they had an iPhone 5.

My device is actually an iPad mini. I am currently at work so would have to check tags when I get home but I have not edited them as it was an iTunes purchase that is in iCloud.

Anyone else notice this sorting issue is only happening in the "A" section? Sure I could just delete these songs but then they aren't in my library anymore and that defeats the purpose. Ive tried everything and still cant get it sorted out. I think there is definitely a software bug.

THAT WAS THE FIX!! You found it and now my artists scroll from A-Z. Which means it'll all be messed up again when I download the update, but for today: HOORAY! Thank you for posting.

I just updated my iphone 6 and the problem with the alphabetical order still exists. In my case the alphabet scrolling works properly in "Artists, Albums and Titles" as long as "all music titles" in settings is turned off. When I turn it on again only alphabet scrolling in "artists" works but not in Titles and Albums.

My "Group Album by Artist" was off in settings so I turned it on and that fixed my problem with both Artist and Album scrolling.

I also am having issues! My music app will not allow me to choose anything between A & W when I touch any letter between the A & W in "Artist" mode, however, I can scroll up and down and all the artists are listed. Please fix this Apple .... very annoying!!!

Thanks for helping me to figure out the solution to this issue on my iPhone 6 Plus.

My issue was a single song in a compilation that was listing under the artists name with a "V" in the middle of my A's.

The song was purchased via iTunes and even though I deleted it - it still showed because it was in the cloud.

While I had tried the first three steps below numerous times - it was after adding the fourth step that it seemed to fix my issue.

My Solution -

I edited the song details:

1) I made sure the Artist name was correct,

2) I made sure the Album Artist was listed as VARIOUS,

3) Then I unchecked the compilation checkbox in the options.

4) I added lyrics

While I am no expert, I would guess that a material change needed to be made to the ID3 Tag to get it to "reset."

I am sharing this incase it can help others who experienced the same issues and frustrations I did.

i have found that turning off the Show All Music feature also solves this. i also have a problem where my music just stops or freezes - this seems related. I still think this is a bug though - it never happened in previous IOS updates.
