Ios8 slow charging ipad
Since I updated to iOS 8 my iPad will barely charge. It is extremely slow. Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

Same thing for me. My iPad basically got bricked by an update. Same OEM charger and cord just magically stopped working. I actually thought it wasn't charging at all because there is no sound or icon indicating the charger is even plugged in anymore BUT it does actually charge between 4 and 8% PER DAY which basically makes it useless. We took it to the Apple store and they said "it actually looks new" and they don't know why it is bad. I think they offered us something like a $100 discount on a new one but that doesn't exactly seem appealing.
1. Make sure you are using the 10W or 12W charger from Apple.
2. Make sure you connect charger to wall socket.
Try reset iPad
Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down together until you see the Apple Logo.
Note: Data will not be affected.
I don't know the wattage but my charger is 5 amps and worked fine until I updated to iOS 8? By the time I realized I needed a charge I was down to 5% and am thinking maybe when it's that low it responds slower to charging. It seemed to pick up charging speed as the % got higher? I did reset after your suggestion. We'll see how it goes from here. I'm doubting it has an thing to do with my charger because my iPhone and "mini" don't have the same problem even after the update?
Thanks
i have an ipad 3 and a gen 1 mini. the mini used to fully charge in a few hours and last almost two days. I could charge using theoriginal 5w wall charger tha came with it and even use a usb extension between it and the charging cable. Since ios8 plugging the mini in to charge merely keeps the battery % static and ma even drop a few % points if using the mini While plugged in. whether the usb extension is used does not matter; i am unable to get any battery charge increase. I found the ONLY way ive been able to charge up the iPad mini now is to use the 10w wall charger from my iPad 3.
I have reset and restored both iPads from the cloud to no improvement.
My recommendations would be to do one or all of the following:
Buy a larger brick/wall charger
Purchase an Apple power cord, or a name brand one
Put iPad brightness to minimal
I believe you need a 2.1 amp/10 watt charger. That's what I have. Another thing that can affect the charging is your cord connecting the charger to the iPad. You may need to have that checked out at the Apple Store.

thanks for all thanks for all the suggestion but I didn't have any problems with what ever equipment I was using until the iOS 8 update? So I hesitate to believe that suddenly it's the fault of my charger or the cord I'm usingđ is any one else having problems charging as quickly after the latest update?đ
Regardless of your hunches (and we all have them) you still have to eliminate that possibilty. Have it checked by Apple.
I, for one, believe the original poster.
This has been happening to me since iOS8. Both my iPhone 5 and my iPad Air take ten times as long to charge as they did. The charged devices seem to deplete at about the same rate as before.
I'm using Apple charging cables purchased at an Apple Store. The wall adapters are the newer 12v. I have tried both directly connected to the computer and with the wall chargers, both. The electrical charge coming from the wall outlets is 119V.
The length of time it takes to recharge both devices has increased by an order of magnitude. They do recharge completely, but recharging the iPad Air took more than 8 hours to recharge from 38% where it once took about 3, with iOS7. All unnecessary applications are turned off, and it's on airplane mode, and had been hard started, and was sleeping.
The iPhone performance is similar to the iPad.
I can replicate the issue on my work iPhone, iPad 2 and iPad Air.
Perhaps they limited the devices to trickle charges to resolve the overheating reports.
But it is happening.
I am no longer able to fully charge my iPhone5 or iPad Air from 50% to 100% in less than 8 hours. Using same charger the devices shipped with. Prior to iOS8 update I had no issues. Now devices cannot keep a charge (iPhone depletes within 1.5hrs normal usage--phone and email, iPad depletes in about 2.5hrs).
I've been through all of the standard responses...checked all settings, location data, privacy, background updates. Reset all settings. No change. Backup to iTunes, sync. No change. I have not reset to factory yet, basically because that's a huge pain. Battery usage does not show anything out of the ordinary, percentage-wise. Tried letting it deplete to 0% (obviously easy to do) and recharge to 100%...took about 18hrs. No change
Left phone in airplane mode overnight and it shutdown due to 0% power after about 2 hrs.
I connect iPad to charger when I go to bed. Woke this morning to charger at 85% after 6+ hrs charging. No new apps. Only change is iOS update.
I've not had trouble with iOS updates in the past, but this one is really messing me up. Can't be away from power source for more than 1.5hrs. And cannot get fully recharged.
With my iPad 3 it recharges OK sometimes when I connect directly to the back of my iMac then sometimes it slows down and refuses to recharge except very slowly so i switch directly to a wall outlet.

For all ipad users, pls note ipads requires 100% original charger as well 100% original data cable both by apple, than ipad will charge faster and give good battery backup, if charger or data cable any one of them is not original than ipad will charge very slowly with poor backup
I Have a brand new iPad Air 2 using the accessories from the box to recharge ... Has been powered off and recharging for more than eight (8) hours and only reached 88% ... That's back from 0%. I find this an oddly long time to recharge - iphone 5 first gen recharges full in just a Couple hours.
AGain - using boxed cable and wall adapter !
Since ios8 my iPad mini is doing the same thing. I could full charge from dead in 2-2.5 hours. Now it takes more like 7-8 hours. This is with the original wall charger and my brick iPad charger both of which are oem FROM APPLE. my fully charged iPad lasts about 6 hours if I am lucky. This is with brightness turned all the way down. I do have a lot of useage, but I always have. I actually use it a bit less now than I did before. I used to go 2 days between chargers and I am lucky if I get a full 6 hours. My old iPad still on ios7 lasts for 3-4 days with the exact same usage. I interchange them and they both used to last almost the same. Now it isn't even close and the only change is ios8. I took it to an apple store where I was told many people are complaining of sluggish charge time and severe battery drain since ios8. He set everything up to optimize battery and it gave me an extra hour of battery life. I just want them to fix it. It has been wiped twice. I've deleted every song that isn't a must keep going from almost 1000 songs to 300. I've delete 70% of photos and videos. My fetch system for notifications is only when I check the apps....I am at a loss.
