iPad 2 keeps crashing rebooting after ios 8 update

Since updating my iPad 2 to ios 8 I have had numerous problems with it, first thing that happened was the accesscibility features came on and would'nt turn off, had to attach to my mac and disable them in itunes, also while this was occuring the ipad 2 kept randomly rebooting, this is still occuring, I have so far done a soft reset and a hard reset, I've done a restore, I've updated to ios 8.2 and still the same things happening, this is starting to get very annoying.

iPad 2 was working fine until this update . . please can anyone assist . . .

here's an idea...

who is running the BOX.app?

the BOX service on YOSEMITE also crashed the finder completely. And you had to update to fix that.

and my crash report is saying BOX.APP is the cause... "this extension took too much time to initialize"

Aha. This would answer why only certain people are getting this problem.

Certain apps that communicate over WIFI maybe crashing because their code isn't updated with IOS8?

ALSO ... I see that iBoot runs the Recovery Mode for your device, and the version number indicates that you are running iOS 8.0.1 or 8.0.2.

Here's a link for further information ...

https://theiphonewiki.com/wiki/IBoot_(Bootloader)

iBoot is Apple's stage 2 bootloader for all of the devices. It runs what is known as Recovery Mode. It has an interactive interface which can be used over USB or serial.

It isn't a hardware issue and there is nothing anyone can do for you. The iPad 2 is at the very bottom of the "compatibility" list and simply doesn't have the horsepower to run iOS 8 or any of the subsequent updates. I learned my lesson on this subject the hard way with my iPhone 3G and iOS 4. If a device is at the bottom of the list, DO NOT INSTALL AN UPDATE until you've satisfied yourself that others have successfully operated their device after the upgrade. It sounds really callous, but let others sacrifice themselves for you. In reality Apple shouldn't have signed iOS 8 for the iPad 2. Since no one is forcing us to update our devices, it isn't really forced obsolescence. iPad 2 is still the most widely used pad in the Apple ecosystem. If they don't sign iOS 8 for use, iPad 2 owners will cry because they don't get the latest OS. If they sign it and it hammers a few devices they get cries from those folks too. Ultimately, all of our "but it still works great" devices will be left to die on a hillside somewhere. Sad but true.

This may be important or not.., but since my last 'RECOVERY MODE' restore four days ago, the Ipad crashed three or four times simultaneously, then operated the entire day without a crash. When I say 'crashed' I mean went black and showed the apple logo. For the last two days, when putting iPad to bed, I have been hitting the 'sleep' button, and then the last two mornings, just a home key press and it woke up fine. My crash log shows one crash for 10-30-14 and one for 10-31-14, however, we don't recall ever having seen them occur. All apps appear to be working in this manner and better than operation has been for well over a month !.. I'll take this, if this is what I have to do to maintain operation of the ipad4. Had aa grim reminder of 'THAT OTHER WORLD" yesterday.. updating a laptop with Windows Updates and loading Norton Security suite took WELL over four hours to accomplish. Maybe a crash or two a day is NOT so bad >:-)

For what it's worth, this unending boot cycle started going on with my iPad 3 recently upgraded to iOS 8, when I was downloading a particularly humongous app. I finally kept hitting the home and power buttons in random rapidfire fashion. Miraculously, I came upon my sleep screen, & promptly backed up the iPad & restored it. As someone mentioned, it's working a lot less clunkier now, something the upgrade to iOS definitely induced. So when in doubt, backup & restore.

Same problem for me. Ipad 2 worked flawlessly since purchase a coupe of years back and since ios 8 (and 8.1) it keeps restarting at random intervals.

Tried all forms of resets/hard rests/restores and nothing doing. Phoned Apple today and I'm told it is a hardware issue and not software, the timing is rather coincidental judging by the comments here.

Offered me an out of warranty repair cost of €251 but what's the point? ipad 2 can barely handle this update so why pay to fix it to stand still. A real shame. Hopefully next update will address but I wouldn't hold my breath

as a software and games developer, it isn't hardware. After going to the Apple I realise the staff are clueless on high end bugs like these and will just tell you stupid things like "its hardware" as a quick fix. It's OS related as this issue appeared suddenly when 8.0 appeared. The only people who will look at this are the engineers and I'm told the Apple store staff don't look at the forums. Make sure your crash reporter is on to send to Apple (in diagnostics and usage in the settings) and also have a look at what APP is in your crash reports. I've deleted the unneeded apps that were in my crash reports. But I've got it down to WIFI comms tripping up the code into a system crash, so WIFI is off to keep it stable for the moment.

I am having the very same problem with my IPad 2. Since the IO8 install, my IPad 2 has done the following:

1. Screen freezes at will. Can be going through email, and the screen just freezes

2. Can be looking at a website, and the screen flicks back to home page

3. Can be writing something on a website, and the screen just freezes

i I have tried the following:

1. Deleting information not needed. Just clearing out eeverything not wanted

A. Junk mail

B. Apps not used

2. Rebooted

A. Just shouting it off. Sometimes it will not allow me to just shut it off

B. The grand rebooting where the Apple logo appears

Absolutely none of these problems existed before I installed IO8. Help I am tried of having to completely shut down everthing many times in a day. Sometimes with in minutes of it's use.

So who or where can we actually report these issues to if the Apple Store won't listen nobody from apple actually reads these forums, oh wait they do if you make mention of SJ & TC, as I found on one of my earlier posts in this thread (they deleted it cause I said SJ would be spinning in his gr@ve at the mess apple were now)

Anyone got any suggestions

I finally had it with the shut-downs and re-boots and freezing into recovery mode.. Went to the Apple store and had them examine the error log, There were about 10-15 'panic ips' entries and the tech said that they showed a hardware error '110' which he said was a hardware fault. I am a total skeptic, and asked if the iPad4 had enough power to support 8.1 OS, he said yes, plenty, but this was a hardware failure.. He said since it was out of warranty, It would be $399 to replace it with an ipad4 that would be similar. He also told me the 'trade-in' value was $175 which I could apply to the purchase of a new ipad Air or Air2.

After consideration, I opted for the new iPad Air which is similar in size to the iPad4 and fits in a keyboard slip case that I had. Total cost out the door was $251, which I hated, but that's the reality.. If it turns out that I see that they found a 'fix' for this issue from you fine folks on the forum, I will definately be honked. For now, I am now enjoying a working iPad with no problems. Besides I get another year warranty on the new one..

I see from your list of things you have done, that you haven't yet reset your iPad to its factory default condition. This has helped quite a few iPad users, according to what they've told me. You'll need to use your iTunes program to do this to get a clean install. You'll need to turn off your anti-virus program on your computer, and be sure you do your backup first, and also that you understand what is backed up and what is not!

Here are the links for understanding and doing a backup, and the last link is the one for resetting to factory default condition ...

Choosing an iOS Backup Method (Should I Use iTunes or iCloud to back up ...)

https://support.apple.com/kb/HT5262

Back up and Restore your iOS Device with iCloud or iTunes

iOS: Troubleshooting Encrypted Backups

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5162

Use iTunes to Restore your iOS Device to Factory Settings

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414

When you restore your backup, if the problems return, then you'll have to reset to factory default again, but this time do not restore your backup to verify whether the problem shows up in the factory fresh condition or not. If it does show up, then you'll need to take it to Apple Support, in that condition (without your data or apps on there) and have them sort it out for you.

If it doesn't show up there in its factory default condition, but it does when you restore your backup, then you'll know that it's a problem with one of your apps or some data or file corruption in your data and you'll have to eliminate the problem from your own data first.

Apple doesn't read these forums because they are "users helping other users" ... and because Apple has OFFICIAL SUPPORT CHANNELS, which is not here. If you want Apple to "listen" you go where Apple has set it up to listen. It's as simple as that!

But the fact that Apple has NOT set up this forum for an OFFICIAL CHANNEL to Apple, doesn't mean that Apple doesn't hire MODERATORS to ENFORCE the "Terms of Use" here. Being a moderator is not being "Apple Support".

All this is simply a matter of knowing what thing fits into what category. It's not hard to understand. This forum is ONLY for "users helping other users" ... in that one user asks for a solution to a technical question, and another user supplies the solution that the first user can implement himself. It's nothing more than this, on these forums.

If you get some of your posts deleted, it's because the Moderators see that you are not abiding by the "Terms of Use".
