Safari HTML5 double audio delay Issue -- Solved

When playing a video on YouTube, mostly I would see a placeholder with “HTML5” & when I clicked it the video would start but, often there would be another audio track playing with a delay! So 2 audio tracks playing same audio out of synch!

I noticed if I did NOT click the “HTML5” -- the audio only would begin playing with no video or a still shot on the screen. If I clicked pause only the video & one audio track would stop & the audio only track would continue. Could not get both audio tracks to synch up!

Note: these videos played just fine on other browsers.

I searched & discovered this post by Carolyn which I followed & seems to have fixed it!

Re: Audio playback problems in Safari since Mavericks upgrade

in response to JohnnyLV

Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.

Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings

Not empty the Safari cache.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.

Select: Show Develop menu in menu bar

Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.

Now try a video.

I have not signed into my YouTube Account for months, Normally no need.

I’ll try it though.

OK, I signed in & then clicked your link, the page has not link that said: "Leave the HTML5 Trial."

YouTube HTML5 Video Player

Many YouTube videos will play using HTML5 in supported browsers. You can request that the HTML5 player be used if your browser doesn't use it by default.

If you encounter any problems, right-click on the player and choose "report playback issue", or let us know on the user support forums. Your feedback will help us continue to improve the player.

I saw 6 boxes with 2 checked; HTMLVideoElement & H.264

4 with red “!” ; Media Source Extensions, WebM VP8, MSW $ H.264 & MSE & WebM VP9

Below that was a yellow triangle & “The Default player is currently being used.”

Below that a blue rectangle highlighting: “Request the HTML5 player”

I was actually thinking the issue was related to Mavericks’ new feature that does not allow auto play video until you click in the video. I suppose I could try to turn that off but, I like the concept where you only see/hear video & use resources to play video when you decide to do so.

I think it is fixed! Thanks to Linc Davis! Was the extension that created the placeholder which only stopped video but, not always audio from playing immediately.

I have 4 extensions:

I uninstalled:

Ultimate Status Bar & Click To Flash

I’m leaving, for now, AdBlock & Flash to HTML5

Click to Flash must have been the culprit!

I’ve tested videos on; YouTube, Fox, USA Today & all videos start immediately . No placeholders, I think that feature is disabled & hence issue resolved.

Thanks again!
