Ipad IOS 8 Bluetooth speakers no longer work

Upgraded Ipad 3 to IOS 8 and Boston Acoustics Bluetooth speakers no longer work. The speakers pair with the Ipad, but connection drops when opening any app that attempts to use the bluetooth connection. Seems like the updated IOS blutooth driver is the problem. I tested with Iphone 4, Iphone 5, ipad 2 running IOS 7

and all work fine. Tested with Iphone 6 plus, Ipad 3, Ipad 2 using IOS 8 and none of the IOS 8 devices work... Also did the IOS 8 patch and did not fix this issue.

The Boston Acoustics Speakers supports Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR, A2DP v1.2

Seems like Apple can't get the wireless side right, IOS 6 had issues with Wifi and Bluetooth muting, that was corrected in IOS 7, now another wireless problem that makes these $350 speakers a boat anchor..... and not usable.

Perhaps they need to hire some RF / Wireless engineers and do a better job of regression testing... I am a wireless engineer and know that we never make hardware or software upgrades without extensive inter op testing and friendly user trials...

I have exactly the same problem and I'm running out of ideas of stuff to reset. Went through reset, even full restore of phone and it still doesn't connect. This is on iPhone 6 with 8.1.2 and the Boston AS XS speakers. Next step is to get the phone replaced as I have the annoying lower right screen clicking issue also.

P.S. Everything was working fine on my 4S with 7.1.1!

I don't think it is the phone i.e. the hardware end. It is definitely a software problem. Apple broke Bluetooth continuity with the iOS 8 update. They have not fixed it yet. People had problems and they may still be having problems using Bluetooth in cars as well with the iOS 8 update.

These Boston Acoustics Theater speakers are sweet. They are a great addition to any TV but the Music Bluetooth feature really was an exceptional bonus.

At this rate to use the Boston AC XS speakers for music over Bluetooth finding an older iPod with Bluetooth still running something earlier than iOS 8 seems to be the only way to get it to work.

I remember in the past Apple breaking something with iTunes many years ago. I forget what I was running maybe a G4 tower when I updated to the latest Mac OS at the time something broke in iTunes. It didn't work properly again until there was another major update to the Mac OS. It took like 2 years. And like magic it just started working again.

Having the same problem here - on two systems, actually. I have an iPad 3 with iOS 8.1.2 and my parents have an iPad 2 and iOS 8.1.2. We both have the BA Soundware XS 2.1. Both iPads connect briefly, but then drop the connection. Neither works now, though they worked great in iOS 6 and 7. BT audio works fine with my iPhone 4s with 6.1 and the XS.

Apple, please fix this! iOS 8 has been out long enough that these BT issues should be resolved by now.

Okay Folks I found a fix. I don't think anyone mentioned this alternative that works as my iPhone is playing music through the BA Soundware XS 2.1 speakers as I type.

I had a brainstorm which involved a little rearranging the room around. I was going to have to move the subwoofer so I broke out the BA manual for the Soundware XS. Sure enough the back panel diagram shows AUX 2 port is just a simple 3.5mm line in plug. You may already have such a cable lying around as it is your standard headphone jack.

All you need is a male to male 3.5mm cable. Connect one to the BA Soundware's AUX 2 port and the other to a headphone jack in what ever device you are using to play music. I had to click the input control until two green lights with one red just above showed up and Voila music sprang from my BA Soundware speakers for the first time since what September?

I know this is not the fix every one was hoping for but it is a fix.

By the way Boston Acoustics had these great media speakers some 15 years ago. A set of two small satellite speakers and a small subwoofer. Boston Acoustics BA635 3-Piece Multimedia Computer Speakers. I still use them. Great sound small footprint.

So with the room slightly rearranged giving way to more dance room just in time as the music once again is playing.

Melvin, I would call that a "workaround" and not a fix. The whole beauty of the BA (and many other Bluetooth speakers) is the ability to connect wirelessly and keep your phone on you while you move around the room. While I appreciate being wired into the system will allow us to use the system, Apple has really dropped the ball on this. I contacted BA and was told that Apple is at fault for not patching the BT problems in iOS 8 (which is evident by the fact my iOS 6 phone works, but my iOS 8 tablet does not). Hopefully, someone at Apple is listening and willing to do something to fix this issue in the next update.

pc1310 it certainly is a workaround. Waiting for Apple to "fix" the bluetooth problem in iOS 8 could take till iOS9 or never.

So if people want to play music through their BA Soundware XS 2.1 speaker system right now it is possible to connect any device with a headphone jack to the AUX 2 line in 3.5mm port on the Soundware. You can connect an iPod Shuffle this way to play music through them. Any MP3 music player will do. An iPod Classic. Or the Nano there must be lots of Nano's out there. Least we forget the Touch. Or if you are kicking it old school a Sony Walkman or Discman will work. etc. etc.

Hey guys! I feel the pain and FRUSTRATION w/ Apple on the deal. They absolutely should fix this and I'm really surprised they've taken this stance. So, yes the 3.5 is a work-around and you call this one as well. But, this one fixes all your Bluetooth needs and works on any other devises too(e.g, receivers, powered speakers, etc... Just invest $30 on ( in my experience) the best Bluetooth adapter/ NFC on the market and your wireless again!! Problem solved. No, Apple didn't fix it but this does. I'm not holding my breath for them to fix this and I've surely not sat around using the satellites as paper weights. I've been using this set up, oh since a month after iOS 8. On iPhone 5s, iPad 3, Galaxy 4 note, LG 8 tab and my sons IPhone 4s. So there you go!! Hopes this solves some headaches and brings the smiles back to BA 2.1 or 5.1 world!! See below! Cheers.....
