JPG files not opening on MAC

Hi Guys,

I went for a trip in the last month where I clicked a lot of pics. I initially transferred them to my windows laptop (JPG). After that, I transferred them to mac and when I view the same files in mac the pictures apear to be in .jpg.xml format (How is that possible?). Anyway, i converted them to JPG and still applications (preview and iPhoto) give me error in mac. I initially tried to open it from external hd itself and then even tried copying it on the desktop. But nothing happens. I was of the view that we can open jpg in mac and if i am unable to do so its going to be a big pain for me.

P.S I am new to Mac so I need your assistance with the same.

Being on the NTFS drive is probably the cause. However, give this a try:

1 - go to Toad's Cellar and download the Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile application created by Automator.

2 - uncompress the app and drop one of your files on it. Be sure to use a copy as warned on Toad's Cellar.

3 - if the app is able to convert the file to a jpeg that you can continue dragging and dropping the other files onto it to convert before importing into iPhoto.

Snow Leopard help off-line lists ways to transfer from windows to mac - including hooking up mac to windows to transfer files. Lately Apple puts all help online - so go to their support site and search for transfer from windows to mac.

Besides trying DVD or CD - if you have different email addresses on each device - try emailing the jpeg from windows to mac.

If you are using a removable drive between windows and mac it has to be configured for use with both windows and mac.

It got fixed. There was an issue in the windows laptop that was changing the format of the pictures while copying. When I emailed one picture to myself it opened fine in mac. So maybe need to use drop box or google drive to transfer those. Anyway thanks a lot for the help.
