Jaybird Bluebuds Disconnecting

Anyone else having problems with Jaybird bluebirds?

I am having a problem maintaining a connection between my Bluebuds and an iPhone 6 plus running 8.0.2. It works fine for a few minutes but then the buds disconnect and I have to press the select button for reconnection. I don't seem to have the problem with an iPad Air running 8.02. I've tried forgetting the device and repairing, and resetting all settings.

Just got back from a run with the Bluebuds connected directly to the Apple Watch playing a synced playlist and they never dropped connection. Not that this really helps anyone here too much (including myself) but at least it's another data point.

Silellak, thanks for the link. I may end up giving those a shot if something doesn't improve soon.

some more data points:

-Bluebird X's, for me, have had the same issue with not only my iphone 6, but my previous Note 2, Note 3 and S5. If there were any other bluetooth devices (android watch, pebble, fitbit, etc). Basically the headphones would drop whenever the phone communicated with another device, no matter how briefly.

-I also have Jaybird Freedom and Freedom Sprint bt headphones (the models they made before X's) and they do not drop even with tile, pebble, fitbit.

The X's seem to be very sensitive to other devices talking with the phone via BT. As a side data point, my factory stereo in a 2012 Kia seems the exact same. It will drop connection with my iphone (and my previous android phones) when it talks to another bt device. But with the kia radio (streaming music to stereo) you can hear some mini drops where the sound cuts out but the connection does not end . . . but after a few of these, it drops.

BT, IMHO, is a very mediocre technology and many issues pop up between various combinations of gear. But it seems like BT is becoming more common every day and we are just to live with it.

My Bluebird X's are totally unused now, which *****. I think they are otherwise a great wireless headset (especially with comply tips). I am very hesitant to buy some other BT headset as it might end up the same.

iPhone 6 + Jaybird Bluebuds X:
Dropouts and disconnections and stuttering and crackling and silence and pretty much everything except the audio I'm actually trying to hear.

Same headphones on iMac and MacBook Pro (Yosemite): all good!

Same headphones on iPhone 5: all good.

This is really disheartening.

I've tried everything except wiping the 'phone and restoring but I only recently had the phone replaced so it was wiped/restored at that point anyway.

Update: I was able to prove that the issue was tied to my iPhone 6. I paired the Bluebuds with iPhone 6's in the local Apple Store with no problem. Made a Genius Bar appointment, backed up my iPhone. In the Store we did "Erase All Content and Settings" - still had same problem. Then did a complete wipe and restore of 8.3 - still had same problem. Swapped devices - all good!

I gave up on the bluebuds, I have looked into a solution and no one has the answer. Crazy. Anyways I just picked up a pair of Jabra ROX and they sound just as good or better then the bluebuds and I haven't had one disconnection issue yet. Even with my bluetooth Tiles and apple watch connected, I have an iphone 6. Interesting, maybe it has something to do with them being bluetooth 4.0 vs 2.1.

They also feel better built and they are a little cheaper then the bluebuds. They also have a great magnet feature when you touch the two earbuds together it puts the headphones into standby. The only thing is they have 5.5 hours battery life vs 8 which isnt a deal breaker for me.

So if you have just about had it with the bluebuds I suggest you check these out.

I've been testing it for a few days using an Apple Watch instead of the Pebble and the Bluebuds. It seems the problem was the Pebble because I no longer have dropouts. I went for a 13 mile run yesterday and the Apple Watch + iPhone 6 plus plus Bluebuds gave me no problem. At this point it seems the problem is with non-headphone 3rd-party devices and the iPhone 6.

and more data points. I had

* iphone 5s

* 2 tiles (keys, wallet) with the tile app running in the background all the time

* bluebuds that I used frequently

No problems for several months.

I replaced the iphone 5s with a 6plus and now I have the disconnect problem. It disconnects so frequently it is unusable. I have the latest iOS (8.4) on the 6plus.

I left my bluebuds at home so I haven't had a chance to try the various work arounds. I'll report back. If the only work around is to remove tile then I'll probably stop using the bluebuds and go back to regular earbuds 😟
