iOS8.0.2 iphone and ipad won't sync yahoo! contacts

Hi,

I upgraded to iOS 8.0.2 on my iphone and ipad and now my yahoo! contacts won't sync. Nothing else has changed on either device so I assume it has something to do with iOS8.0.2.

I have removed the Yahoo! account details from "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and rebooted my device and then added my Yahoo! account back.

My emails re-appear but my contacts do not.

This behaviour happens on both my ipad and my iphone 5.

Please help me. It is driving my crazy.

iPhone 5, iOS 8

Question: After I used the generated password successfully for CARDEV, I generated one for the yahoo mail/contacts/calendars section under settings...just to see if it made a difference with contacts. It didn't. I then deleted the newl App specific password from my yahoo account and tried to connect my iphone mail using my regular Yahoo password, but it will no longer work. It now wants an app generated password only. Is there any way to allow the phone to connect to yahoo again using my regular yahoo password?

Once I was successfully sync my Contact using CARDEV, I stopped doing anything from there.

I still can not sync my inbox mail, however I am happy enough using a different mail app directly from Yahoo (Yahoo mail app which you can download from App store)

So I do not know how to answer your question regarding using regular Yahoo password. However to my understanding from reading Yahoo help on their website: Because of the new higher security method (second log-in verification) everybody using non yahoo 3rd party Mail App (in our case iOS Mail app) would not be able to use regular yahoo password and has to use App generated password from now on.

I guess we also has to wait for Apple and Yahoo working together on this issue.

Thank you

Mine seems back to normal - kind of. I created a dummy contact in my iphone and using Carddav is synced with my contacts online. Today I turned off Carddav, all contacts were removed from my iphone, then I activated contacts on my email account on the iphone. All contacts came back including the dummy. So I deleted the dummy on yahoo mail via my laptop and it has yet to sync (delete from) back to my phone. I pulled in new mail numerous times but still no updating. Does anyone know the frequency (if at all) of any syncing that happens between yahoo and the iOS contacts?

Also, when I started using the app password/2 step authentication, it worked at first. Then every time I restarted Outlook it asked for that password which became invisible on the yahoo site. My default/normal password didn't work either. So I ended up turning off the 2 step authentication. So much for extra security.

Leave it to Yahoo to screw up something seemingly so simple and that used to work. Funny thing is when all of this wasn't working, I imported all of my yahoo contacts into gmail, then turned on gmail on my phone and contact syncing was instant. I mean within seconds. Yahoo, not so much.

I did not have issues with email not syncing from yahoo to mail app but contacts seemed to stop syncing recently.

For me, it was a simple fix. Settings -> iCloud -> turn off contacts

As soon as I turned it off, yahoo synced up with my phone and all the changes I have made recently were there. Let's hope they stick - I'm about ready to ditch Yahoo after 15 years or so because it just hasn't played nice with my last few Apple products.

I had this happen to me. Earlier in this thread, there's a link to explain how to set up a one time generated yahoo password under the two step verification. That worked for me. Its odd because yahoo says you can only use your yahoo password for yahoo apps, and not others like the native iOS mail app. Yet until now, I used my yahoo password with no problem. But if i try it now it says Server not found. I had to generate the password and then it worked again.

My contacts now sync, but something is weird. I delete contacts and they come back later. I swear that one contact was deleted months ago and now its back. Weird.

Got it figured out with the help of a fantastic tech!

  1. Log in to your Yahoo Mail account
  2. Click on Account Info
  3. Under Sign-In and Security, click on Set up your second sign-in verification, you may need to re-enter your PW)
  4. Scroll down to App passwords, click on Generate app password
  5. Type in a name for your app (e.g. iPhone, iPad, etc.) and click Generate password
  6. You will get a 16-character password that comes up...make note of this 'cause you'll need it in a second!
  7. On your Apple device (iPhone, iPad, etc.) click Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  8. Click Add Account
  9. Click YAHOO!
  10. Enter all of your credentials EXCEPT your current password. Enter in the App password received in step 6.
  11. Click Next
