iPhone 6 plus video is dark compared to the pictures

I have noticed that the videos on the iphone 6 plus are very dark compared to the pictures ... Is this normal or does my phone have an issue ?

Update: This issue has not been resolved and the number of viewers to this topic has more than doubled in six months from 17,214 on June 10, 2015 to 35,901 today December 22, 2015. After watching CBS's 60 Minutes piece on how much time Apple takes in picking the color of its devices and their extreme attention to design detail, I wonder why they refuse to fix this issue?

Same problem here with my iPhone Plus 64gb. Today I went to an Apple Store here in Italy and explained my problem: the guy was not aware of the problem but he changed my camera. The problem is still there and the video in low lights are still so dark that I cannot take them. With the iPad I don't have this issue.

Another real problem is that today I also gave for present an iPhone6S Plus 64gb to my girlfriend and it has the same problem!! I was hoping that at least the new model was free from this issue, but sadly it's not. Now I don't know what to do, I just hope that Apple will do something about it.

In these condition I cannot use my phones to take videos inside home in normal / low lights condition.

Just wanted to add that I'm having the same problem. It seems like it should be an easy fix, by simply allowing the phone to film at lower FPS. Also, I only see a slight difference when using apps like snapchat and instagram, or messenger. My friend has a Galaxy S6 and we've been in New York on vacation for New Years. Everything I've filmed is unusable and it's a complete bummer. We've been comparing the cameras, and his Galaxy takes FAR better pictures and videos in low lighting, whereas the iphone is completely useless. In well light areas, the pictures and video are fine. I'll send a report to apple as well. Seriously thinking of switching to a Galaxy because I plan on traveling a lot and I want to record video at all times, not just when it is bright out.

Just to add to the thread, I've been having the exact same issues for the 3 months I've had a 6s. My son does Go Karting so video of him racing indoors at 60fps would be really useful to help him improve. However the 6s video footage is unuseable. It's way too dark. My previous iPhone 5 took great videos in the same location, as does my wife's Note 4 (and her old Note 2). I've resorted to getting another Mum to send me video from her iPhone 4 via Whatsapp. This is a complete embarrassment for Apple and needs fixing.

Hello, it seems i have found temporary solution to this dark video issue... i have downloaded this app "30x zoom digital video & photo camera", its free and video made in dark are far better as compared to original iPhone app... In day time i use iPhone Camera app while in night/ dark i use this app. hope this will work for you all!! cheers

Same here. :-(

I believe this issue came up after an iOS 8.3 update (when new bought, there was no issue).

Hey, Apple.

The stunning arrogance to not even reply on this (all your customers addressing this issue on many several posts, fora and allover the internet).

Not even a simple notice.

Just to let people get frustrated,

having them dissapointed, searching for answers/solutions, posting this question.

Sad.

I had this problem with my iphone6 128gb since launch day.I never gave it attention until much later.

The only solution i found was NOTHING.

I tried everything.

What worked was a free app called MoviePro.

Lets u customize everything. It seems from testing that the iso on the Back camera is somehow stuck at 100.

Raising that on the 3rd party app slowly increased brightness while Framerate was fixed at 30.

This issue is on every iphone 6, 6+ and 6s and 6s + that i have tried and seen with friends....

Can Apple be that ignorant??????????

I will make a proper youtube video about this and hope it blows up.

I'm having the same issue on my iphone 6+ 64GB. Low light conditions make the rear camera show almost black picture. When comparing against an iphone 6 or Samsung Galaxy there is a noticeable difference.

I got the camera changed under the camera replacement programme but made no difference.

I've been on support and been to the genius bar and they are clueless (i.e. not seen this issue). I've logged a formal complaint as the camera is not fit for purpose. But the stance is that post the usual warranty period you're on your own to figure it out (like all tech products).

I did find the front facing camera is very different and resetting your phone etc actually makes things worse. Part of the support process to eliminate iOS updates etc.

There is no way around the laws of physics. When you take a photo the camera varies the exposure time to adapt to the light level. That exposure can be up to 1/2 second. When you take a video at 30 frames per second each image will have an exposure time of 1/30 of a second. So if the light level is low a video frame, and the whole video, will be darker than a still. This is true of any camera that can take videos. For slow motion the problem is worse, because the frame rate is higher than 30 frames per second, so each frame may only be exposed for 1/100 of a second or less.
