Why does FCPX crashes when I paste attributes?

Thanks! I had the same crashing problem when pasting attributes and setting the audio pan to none fixed it. Hopefully this will be addressed in future updates.
Thank you tensai22,
I'm having the same problem. And on a long film. And on a deadline. The workaround suggested here will be a God send ....
Very much appreciated,
Ben
.
Thank you Tom,
Just read it. The workaround will be an enormous help. Wish there was a real fix out there (for me). Strange that it isn't happening with you. I've trashed preferences up the wazoo on this project. Having a horrible time with the titles, font sizes changing.
I've just had the experience of text not showing up on the timeline. The clip is there, copied from the clip a few inches away, but no text showing. I have a solid colour below the text - a shading so the text stands out. In some places on the timeline if I extend that transparent black clip through two text clips ... the text in the second clip disappears. But only sometimes.
Then I've finding my audio plug-ins and EQ settings disappearing, or just changing.
A dog's breakfast this project. Maybe there are a few Gremlins involved.
Sigh. I just finished one of my own films a month ago, 90 minutes, and not a single techno problem with FCPX. Was a pleasure to work with.
Onward, upward...
Ben
When there are lots of seemingly unrelated problems with just one project, the usual trick that often solves this is to copy everything and paste into a new project. Sometimes the project file itself just gets corrupted.
First thing I do Luis, create a new project, import over all the clips. Nada. Didn't work this time. I think you suggested this for another problem I had ... font sizes inexplicably changing. It worked for about a day, and then everything corrupted again. And I believe the consensus out there (for the text issues) is that it is a bug in the current version of FCP.
I think I'm on my third or fourth pass-through on this film ... because of all the unpredictable issues. One day I think I've got a final colour grade and sound mix ... and the next day when I come back to work some of the EQ's have changed, plug-ins disappeared, fonts changing size, weird stuff ... only on a few clips sometimes, but I have to go through the whole film, clip by clip to make sure of everything. My eyes hurt.
Today is a day off. Lunch with my son. He's going to show me his new Ronin. Life is grand.
Same thing here on a brand new iMac Retina with Yosemite and FCPX 10.1.4.
I have a clip with Dual-Mono Audio. I expanded the audio components in the timeline and panned one channel to 50% right, the other to 50% left. Also applied "Loudness" and "Background Noise Removal" separately to both channels. Wanted to copy these attributes from one of the channels to another channel on a different clip, also with Dual-Mono and expanded audio. And tadaa, FCP crashes on every try. 😟
Yup. A bug sansibar112.
I've got a monster long film with scores of audio clips that have to be set at 'dialogue' because of the wretched way they were recorded.
My only solution. I make a clip with everything set as I want, EQ, compression, etc.. At the very last I set the mode to 'none' on this model clip. Then I copy the model clip. Then I paste the attributes to all the other clips on the timeline (no matter how THEY were set originally), and it works. I can then highlight all these clips and collectively reset the mode to 'dialogue'.
So the bug is in the clip you copy from. If you set THAT clip to 'none' in the mode, everything works as it should.
All the best... good luck,
Ben
Thanks, Ben, for your explanation.
Would be nice, if this was fixed somewhen...
I hope you've used feedback with complete specifics of your media and project. I for one have not been able to reproduce this on my systems.
It's a game plan. I'm making up a new wish list to send off. All the odd buggy things I've come across in this project.
Setting my audio Pan to "None" solved it for me, thanks for who offered the fix.
Note: After pasting attributes successfully, you can select all the clips and change Pan to how you want it, all at once.
Me too.
Why does FCPX crashes when I paste attributes?
