Apple Mobile Device USB drivers

Hi All,

Currently my senior colleague gave me his ipad to update. Before updating, i wanted to back up the ipad. So, i open my itunes and plug in the ipad. However, i am having a problem with itunes and recognition of the ipad.

I tried many different ways

Disappearing Apple Mobile Device USB drivers

How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is corrupted or missing

I tried on my Desktop and Laptop (windows 8.1)

Still it is not working.

Any ideas?

Thank you all

It may take some trial and error

Is your iTunes up to date? If not, download the latest version and update it. It's common for iTunes to be backstopped....in other words if your iPad has iOS 8 then iTunes must be updated to a certain level to work.

If it's up to date, another trick with windows 8 computers, go into the control panel (hover in the lower right corner to bring up the charms menu, click on the gear and go to control panel), then programs, add/remove programs. Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application support. Then redownload and reinstall iTUnes and try again.

Ok.

The easiest thing would be for you to use his computer to update his iPad. Generally, the iPad is set to sync to one computer at a time, so I'm not sure how many extra steps there would be for you to back his iPad up to your computer (and can't recall if you'd need to know his Apple ID or not) and then go through it all without risking losing his data.

If that's not a possibility, in that cap you showed, if you right click on the apple driver, does it give you the option to restart it?

The mapping issues are a possibility. Usually, uninstalling those three programs and then reinstalling them helps with that. There was a bit of a glitch with Win 8 where iTunes would update the driver, but it only thought it did, really the computer had the old driver. Uninstalling the mobile device service and apple application support removes those drivers, so that when you plug the iPad back in it triggers the install. But you said you've already done that.

My iPad and computer (I have win 8) got caught in that loop where I'd press 'trust' when given the 'do you trust htis computer' but nothing would happen so endless cycle until I uninstalled those programs and then reinstalled itunes.

Rebooting the comptuer can also help clear out any cobwebs, and also for drivers switching to a different USB port (or swapping cables to rule that out as the issue)

I know you've already done most if not all of that. The maddening part is sometimes it's just a matter of fiddling with it until you stumble upon the right combo to make it work.
