I guess we can close the thread on YOUR 4000, but mine is still just about as buggy as ever. I thought since I drive a truck it might be the mic and vibrations that I was unable to hear, so last night I sat in my drive with the ignition on and still had problems. Most all of the time if I just say "Hey Siri", I get the mic icon, no sine wave, then the lower clunk tone that signifies it's through listening and it goes back to now playing. Before the update I could press the mic icon and get the sine wave. Now I can't do that.
I noticed before the update that if I said "Hey Siri" a second time while the mic icon was showing I would get the sine wave. Then if I waited a second for the higher clunk tone I could say a command. But by golly I'd better say it fast and not stumble because she will cut my *** off at the pass! Same is true of composing a text message. I need to have it on a teleprompter and not pause for a nanosecond or she asks if I'm ready to send it.
Rdio is working, but it's buggy. Spotify is finally working a little better. But in my humble opinion if you have Siri working even acceptably you are doing something different that we haven't yet put our thumb on.
Before I upgraded the unit in my Tundra I pulled it out and put brand new high-quality USB extension in both USB-1 and USB-2 and I'm using a brand new iPhone 6. So all I can say is, between Windows 8 and iOS 8, I think we need to go to a base 9 number system when it comes to software releases.
But all kidding aside, I would like to see us have a thread for NEX users somewhere. I think it's very helpful. And if you have any suggestions please pass them on. I cannot think of a single thing I could do differently. Maybe caress the mic as I say "Hey, Siri..."

I am having the exact same issue with "Hey Siri" as you are. I have not gone as far as trying "Hey Siri" a second time but I will experiment with that myself.
So, unless this is an issue with the 4000NEX (which I also have), if others are getting this to work, I'd love to know what they are doing that we are not.
I thought I read somewhere else that if you ignore the high / low clunk from Siri and simply say "Hey Siri <insert request here>" that it works but I have not verified that yet - but will on my way home from work tonight.
And Hey Siri works about as well as I would expect it to via Bluetooth. It is only when it is plugged in via CarPlay that it acts as you described above.
