iPhone 6 iOS 8 Voice Control comes on randomly while using headphones, how do I disable??

I already disabled Siri from Settings > General > Siri

This is really annoying, it stops my music and I try to navigate on the phone and the Voice Control screen appears and doesn't want to go away. Help please!

Been dealing with this issue since getting new iPhone 6 a few weeks ago. None of the settings has worked for me. The issue seems to be in the use of headphones that have a toggle feature built into the headphone that allows you to control the play/pause settings on the phone. I currently use Skull headphones and any slight movement around the phone jack (without pushing the button) creates an issue. Anything from the speed of voice, automatically turning on voice control and the static on the line all appear to originate from the interface with the headphone.

I switched to another set of headphones that don't have this feature and I can swing the headphones all day and doesn't replicate any of these other issues.

This appears to be more of a hard wear issue and not in the IOS. Maybe they can turn off this control interface but none of the current setting options address this issue. Upgrading to a new set of headphones rather than waiting for Apple because theee are the main features I want from my phone other than phone, web, and business apps.

I really have found the quality of Apple products to be getting worse over time. I should get compensated with free iPhone bucks for the cost of the new headphones

Glad I found this thread, I thought I was losing it or that my iPhone 6 was trolling me. I didn't delete some old contacts so I managed to '*** dial' (phone was in my back pocket) my ex-girlfriend, an ex friend and a current friend while ordering coffee, walking home and listening to music and while riding a motorcycle.

I thought my headphones (Sony in-ear noise cancelling headphones seen in photo 3) were broken until I saw this thread. I'm currently using a Lifeproof frē case (link: http://www.lifeproof.com/shop/us_en/iphone-6-cases/iphone-6-case-fre/?color=Blac k+%2F+Black ) which has it's own adaptor for the headphones (seen in photo 1 + 2):

I read through and realised it's probably the jack which leaves me with two options: top using the Lifeproof case (not a good option as I have it for a reason) or cycle through different headphones (the expensive option and I can't really afford that) and see what's what. My only other headphones I can test with are the Apple headphones that came with my iPhone, and I hate them (they don't have noise reduction and the quality is bad in comparison).

Frustrating considering this same set of headphones seems to cause my phone calls to hang up randomly (even without voice control showing up) so it seems like I'm being forced to use Apple headphones if I don't want this issue.

Tested my phone with and without my Lifeproof case and it seems to be just using any non-Apple headphones. Frustrating as ****.

Looks like this problem is more common than people think. Fed up with my situation, I decided to scour Amazon.com for replacement headphones because I hate the Apple ones. And lo and behold, what do I find? A complaint about the same problems we're experiencing in reviews for one of the most popular earphones on Amazon at the moment. Clicking on the screenshot takes you to the other reviews.

It's either the earphones fault for not being properly compatible with the iPhone, or Apple's fault in terms of hardware. Build quality vs. hardware. Time to check reviews for more expensive, high-end earphones. Guess the only solution for now is to buy earphones that are specifically iPhone-compatible. :/

Glad I found this post, I thought I was going crazy. Recently upgraded from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 6 exactly 14 days ago. It was a few days before I had a chance to listen to some music on my phone but when I did I the voice control feature kept interrupting my music in pretty much exactly the same way which has been described by others on this thread.

I had assumed it was a problem with the headphones so it was only when I purchased a new set of headphones and no sound was coming through on one ear I realised there must be an issue with the phone itself. I tried it with another pair of headphones same problem. However I tried it with the apple head phones and a pair of headphones that do not have any sort of control (to skip songs/change volume) and it works. So clearly there is an issue either with Apple's hardware or software or both.

I'm not exactly sure what to do as I have only had the phone for 2 weeks I am inclined to return it and cancel my contract till they fix the issue. For a brand new phone which is less than 6 months old I shouldn't have to deal with this!

That situation might work if you haven't already turned on the passcode option. For thos of us who have it will not work.

This has to be a bug in the new IOS8.1 version as it didn't happen on IOS 8.0.2.

It's very annoying when they disable a function. I've never used Siri, and will never use it. The voice control kicking in every 10 seconds when I have my dead phones plugged in (just because they're not apple brand. I hate apple headphones.

Same problem. I listen to podcasts on my 90-minute commute, and this has become not only an annoyance but a safety concern. I disabled Siri but that didn't stop it. Happens only when I have my iphone headphones in. No problem playing through speakers. I'll try the passcode fix but I'm not optimistic. Definitely has to be an IOS bug. Apple, are you reading this?

UPDATE: Well, followed instructions to a T on my less-than-a-year-old 5S, and had no problems Friday driving home. This morning, however, Voice Control popped up every 30 seconds. Worse, when I got back to the podcast, it tooled along at double time. I can't drive and listen to podcasts--which is the primary reason I have an iPhone. I will contact Apple Support today. This is utter nonsense. I should not have to disable half my phone's capabilities to enjoy an exclusive feature it promotes. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Same thing is happening to me! I disable siri and voice dial and ever since sunday voice control won't shut up! Im in school and every minute voice control would pop up and randomly call somebody or play music! I have to turn off my phone until i need to use it, which is annoying because i can't get notifications or anything. I don't get why this is a problem because i have the iPhone 6 and its new so it shouldn't have any problems yet, so i am frustrated, especially since i can't use it unless i want voice control to interrupt every two seconds.

Pretty darn inconvenient. It's clear that Apple does not have a handle on iOS 8 stability issues. In general, I've found that iOS 8 behaves more like Android than iOS 7 with regards to strange and painful things randomly happening. I've run into numerous issues just trying to play music. I'll be using music playback options that don't involve Apple in the future.

Maybe they should skip iOS 9 and just fix iOS 8? 😁

Happens to me at least once a week. Phone is just sitting on the desk while I'm in a meeting, and Siri just starts listening and speaking to me.

Nothing to do with headphones, or jogging, or podcasts. Not even using/touching the phone when it happens. At least my colleagues get a big kick out of it when we're meeting and Siri just chimes in.
