Ipad2 has major problems with iOS 8

Unfortunately I leaped before I looked and installed iOS 8 on my iPad 2. It constantly loses cellular service and only way I have found to get it back for a little while is a hard restart. Even then it can take several minutes and several retries to restart it. three retries and ten minutes later I am back to "No Service". Web pages load very slowly and sometimes not at all. Domes Safari shuts down on its own but only when I am in the middle of something important. Latest wrinkle is the touch screen stops working and then it freezes requiring amother hard restart. Several times a day. I even uttered the evil "thank goodness I have a kindle fire."

The ios 8 update to fix problems just made things worse. Does anyone have a solution to these problems? Is the a way to get back to iOs 7?

No, there is no way to get to iOS 7, so that's out of the question.

Try to restore your iPad to "factory fresh condition". Apple is currently selling iPad 2s on their online store website, and those are "factory fresh iPad 2s" and thus are fully operational with iOS 8.0.2. You probably need to get your iPad 2 back to the factory installed condition, to see how it's operating.

Be sure to do your backups first, before fiddling with it. Here's how to get your iPad 2 - just like the ones that Apple is selling TODAY on their online store website.

Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

Don't restore your personal data just yet. You can do that later. First try it out in the factory fresh condition and see how everything operates. If there are still major problems and things won't work properly, you may have a hardware problem that needs to be fixed. You'll have to schedule something with the Genius Bar.

Try that and let me know how it goes ... :-) ...

Great news - the same for me too. I was booked in to the Genius bar again on thurs 23 October but after installing the latest ios 8.1 on Wednesday night - my ipad2 problems were all resolved & its been working fine since!. Still peeved it took Apple a month to sort this & I was without 3G for a month - but glad its sorted now. I won't rush to install new software updates in the future!!

I am curious as I also have an Ipad 2 and I use it only for running apps that create and record music. I have a fair amount invested in these apps. Anyway. Just curious if you or any of the others that have had success with 8.1 also record music or play synths and other music apps....sequencing etc. Thanks and am glad that more people are getting some results. I am still holding back for now but I hope that one day I can upgrade to 8.x and not be slowed down or unable to do what I do now with my ipad 2.

thanks.

I agree 110%! My initial jump, years ago, to Apple products, was their reputation for ease of use, including software upgrades. I was notified on my iPad 2 that a new upgrade was available for my device. There was no caveat about upgrading on my iPad 2. With my blind trust of Apple, I stupidly installed the upgrade, only to find, like many others have, that my iPad was now almost unusable. It's great that some enjoy researching and finding solutions for Apple product problems. Personally, I think that's Apple's responsibility and I have neither the time, knowledge, desite, or inclination to Apple's job for them. It is Apple's fault!

I Posted this same problem earlier. Now, I'm finding that it's not just MY problem. Question about backup and restore. Will all of my apps back up and be restored? I have lots of books that were not purchase from apple, but from Amazon. Will they be restored? I know I have to go back to factory fresh, but I don't want to loose my stuff.

i Appreciate your help!

THank you!

sterling1, I had a cellular service problem after restoring to factory fresh so I took it in to the local office of the provider and asked for a new SIM card just telling them suddenly my iPad started frequently dropping the cellular service. They put in a new SIM card and things got much better. The whole problem went away when I installed iOS 8.1.
