Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Download apps on computer and sync

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Spent hours doing all the above, made no difference at all to the problem, Re: apps on a ipod touch 5th gen need updates but when you try to update them it just opens the app" 😠 😠 The best suggestion so far for some work around is from zoomerjr to put date fwd 2 weeks (then back). Apple needs to FIX this ASAP

I'm getting frustrated as anything.

This issue only seems to have happened the last week. I'm on ios 7, i'm not jailbroken but i'm fed up of not being able to update apps.

I did try the method above, press the apps name (Not update button) and then press the Update button once the app and its description are open. That worked for the Kindle update but for some games updates it just opens the app still.

Is this Apples way of 'forcing' people to go to ios8 ? I think it is as i opened up a case for this and i simply got a 'update to the latest ios' response ! Tried replying but 'amazingly' it says there was an error when i tried to reply. So i've opened another case. The guy on the phone wasnt much help either.

If Apple said 'sorry there are issues' and then we waited a week or so thats fine. But to make out nothings wrong its frustrating as anything.

Someone else has the same issue...

The response, just go to a generic help page which is patronising as it explains how to update apps.

Surely Apple realise theres an issue ? Obviously not. Androids looking more appealing minute by minute. Spent a fortune on 1000's of apps and now i cant even update them, only if i'm forced to go to ios8 which will run like a dog on my iphone 4s.

SAME problem still exists, Apple is too busy gaining new customers, for their next million $$$$$'s to be bothered about the ones they already have, that stinks!

The only satisfactory solution I found is to update apps via iTunes, then sync, which is no help to those without a computer.

Also WHY does it show at top of this Discussion "Branched to a new discussion" https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6594147 but access denied??

You'll love this. I found a simple solution. First I'll explain what is happening (in theory), and then I'll tell you how to fix this. So Apple updates to IOS 8 without really testing it to its limits. You can see articles of data leaks, shutdown / start up failures, data / wifi issues, etc. That is why I won't update. If you look in the App store you'll see that after an app has updated it gives you the option to directly open the app. This "bug" that we're experiencing works like this. If an UPDATE button was a piece of paper and an OPEN button were a sticky note the sticky note is being put over the paper without the word UPDATE even being written yet. In other words its giving the command to open without ever updating. Why you ask? Well money is the answer. It's just one of those flaws that Apple misses when they rush to put out new products.

Solution: Unfortunately i'm not sure Apple will ever fix this, but a solution for now is to simply click the apps name (not update) in the update section of the App store. this will take you to that Apps page where you can then update the App by pressing update. You'll have to do them 1 by 1, but it is the only way iv'e tried so far that works. I have tried rebooting, respringing, resetting defaults, resetting network settings, logging in/out of App store, toggling on/off restrictions, and deleting/re installing the apps that had this issue.

Hope this helps!

Yes, my device is jail broken, but this never happened until the release of IOS 8. I have had a jailbreak for over a year without this issue. Even uninstalling Software Update Killer (for those of you wondering) DID NOT WORK! My understanding is that this is affecting a variety of Apple devices both jailbroken and not.

Hi David

I concur. You are correct that this problem does exist and that you are not crazy.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 4s (7.0.6) and it was not due to any recent iOs update. In theory it "just appeared" as I had been updating apps all last week without any problem.

Even tried removing the app, and reinstalling the update app via iTunes, but that didn't work. It shows me the "update" button again.

Try this, it may have worked. I read an article about clearing the update app list and it appeared to work for now.

Turn off "set time automatically" and move the date 2+ weeks ahead.

The update list cleared but not sure if requires updating the list.

Thank for the tip buddy! This method the only one that works for now. I'm just wondering why there are so many really dumb answers for this issue? Those people ether do not have this problem or just replying without trying their methods just to look like they are so **** smart.....

It does seem that a lot of people running ios 7 are having this issue. If it is inly on ios7 I'm assuming like I said earlier it has something to do will Apple releasing updates that are only supposed to go to ios 8 devices to ios 7 users. If not its something very similar. Both my fix and Zoomers fix work for me. Apple my never fix this though.

It doesn't matter if it's jailbroken. Stock phones are still having this issue as well as JB devices.

That does not change the fact that jailbroken devices function differently than stock devices. That's the purpose of jailbreaking. Also, jailbreaking does produce some major disadvantages:

1) The experienced users on the forum can not provide assistance because we do not know the characteristics of any specific jailbroken device.

2) If any warranty was still in effect, it's been voided.

3) Apple will not even do non-warranty repairs on a jailbroken device, again because it functions differently than that which Apple intended.

4) Considering all of the above, in the event of a problem, your only source for assistance is the jail breaker.

I disagree, this problem effects all, JB or Standard, iPods, iPads, iPhones. My iPad Air has never had this crap happening, it was just fine. Yep I blame Apple, because I did hard resets, restored from a good backup, (seemed to work briefly), then reverted back to the errors. Downloading updates via iTunes, syncing back to the iPad, installed the updates, BUT then they still had 'Update' alongside them in the App store. Putting the date forward 2 weeks (then back), as suggested here at least cleared some of the gunk, but for how long?

OK. Call apple and tell them that your jailbroken iPad isn't functioning correctly.

You're correct. Please check my earlier response to David. I stated:

"That's a good thing. Don't take advice from those with jailbroken devices as their devices function differently than yours."
