App Store shows updates, opens apps instead, update through search

So I have the badge showing 8 updates. The update tab shows 8 as well. I clicked update and it opened the app instead of updating. I used the search tab and searched for one of the apps needing an update. Here the app shows open. I clicked open and it prompted me for my apple password (shouldn't happen for updates btw) and then updates the app. I go back to the updates tab and it's moved down under updated October 10, 2014 but still shows update. I click update and it opens the app. I went back to the search again and clicked open where it opened the app.

I have the same problem. One device, an iPhone is jailbroken, but 2 other iPhones and 2 iPad Mini's aren't. All are running some version of iOS 7.X.X.

I am pretty sure the problem is the apps are being updated and/or optimized for iOS 8 and until one updates to iOS 8 those updates are not available. That's why the person who updated to iOS 8 fixed the problem. Hope this helps!

To those discussing the jail-broken devices...

The issue isn't the device being jail-broken or not, although jail-broken devices are not warrantied to work by Apple. The problem is that their App Store is broken for those of us still on ios7(jail-broken & not jail-broken).

For those who mention upgrading is what resolves the issue...

I don't want to upgrade to iOS 8 as of yet since there are still a bunch of bugs that need to be worked out. My iOS version is working fine for me and bug free.

General App Store comment...

Apple seems to have problems with the App Store when they bring out the new OS. Whether it's oversight or they're way to force people on the new OS, I'm not sure. I didn't mind the free U2 album but forcing is wrong. Android doesn't force people to upgrade; it's an option. People want to upgrade to get what's new. Nothing in iOS 8 is of value on an iPhone 5 since I don't have biometrics options.

Opening a case...

I paid for the Apple Care and I'm still under warranty. I've opened a case with Apple. If they can't resolve this issue then, despite having been with Apple since day 1, I'm gone for good. I'll just get a Samsung Phone and tablet that I know works, doesn't cause me pain, performs better and connects to my TV.

I agree & the reasons given for updating as far as being more secure, blah blah I don't know about you all but I've had an iPhone since the 3G. And my phone has never been hacked or anything else. If you aren't James Bond, Jason Bourne, or employed by the NSA, CIA, or carrying around the Presidents football case with the nuclear launch codes I don't think phone "security" is a major issue!!

And while on the issue of complaining about "forced" upgrades to iOS. The fact you can't downgrade if you don't like the current iOS is complete and utter horse you know what. I understand your sandboxing, safest App Store, whatever but you need to loosen up a bit on the iOS dependencies! Allow downgrading if the device at one time was compatible at a lower version!

This is the same old crap that Apple has done for years. Look how long it took them to get copy/paste in the IOS? I was hoping that once Steve was out of the picture this company would start listening to the users and not have the same old attitude. Which is they will tell you what you want. Most major organization have to test software with the business applications they use before they can allow their users to upgrade.

So, for apple to say the solution is to upgrade is unheard of. I work for a major software manufacturer and we will not support IOS 8 until our next service release. This is if Apple can get rid of the bugs they have in IOS 8. How many updates have they pushed out so far? Also, with the last push, my iPad is showing there are updates available, but when you open App Store there is nothing there.
