Cannot update Apps, App opens instead

Tried updating some apps recently but have not been able to. When I tap the update button, it opens the app itself. In the case the app prompts me to update via a pop-up message, nothing happens after I tap update on the pop-up.

I Have an ipad 2 and I'm running iOS 7.0.4. thing to note, I did have restrictions enabled an had to enable them but still no luck.

ANy any help would be appreciated.

You're right. I don't believe that is the problem either.

Here is what Apple replied with....

I’m sorry to know that you are unable to update some of the purchased apps on your iPad. I do certainly recognize the importance of getting the updated to enjoy new features. I will look into this and provide you with the necessary information in this situation.

I appreciate your effort in trying to reset the device and enabling the restrictions. However, it did not resolve your issue. Not to worry, I will assist you.

I reviewed your iTunes Store account and found that you have multiple iTunes Store accounts. Please, note that you can only update or download apps with the account you have originally bought them with. If you aren't sure which account you used to buy an app, please check the below given article:

iTunes Store & Mac App Store: Seeing your purchase history and order numbers

If you don't see the app in your Purchase History, then it's probably on another account. Sign out of this account, and then try these steps again with your other accounts.

If you are unable to locate your accounts and if you would like to know your account names, you will need to contact our Account Security Team for security reasons. You can speak to an Account Security Advisor by calling our AppleCare technical support team. To find the right contact option for your country, see this article:

I hope the provided information is helpful in getting your apps updated. However, if the issue still persists, I suggest you to contact our Technical Support team advisor for further assistance. An Apple Care Advisor can tell you about our complimentary and fee-based support options and help you choose the best one for your product.

Also, if you have any further queries regarding iTunes Store, please reply to this email. I will be happy to assist you.

I have only one apple ID and that is what I have purchased/downloaded all my apps with. When I am in iTunes I see that I have two entries that say "Purchased on philiposm's iPhone". One is probably my original loaner iPhone and the second one is after I gave that back to work and got my personal iPhone before leaving that job. However, like I said, I always used the same apple ID. I find it strange that all I see is the "Purchased on iPhone" and I don't see "Purchased on iPad".

Ive found a temporary solution that everyone may have overlooked. If you delete the app and download it again it works fine. Since when you download an app it gives you the newest version, the update option now disappears from the app store and you have the newest version downloaded. I had 8 apps that wouldn't update just like all of you. The app would just open when i would tap the update button. This solution is not that bad if you only have a few apps to update, however if you have 100+ apps that need an update this could take some time.

I read it originally. And what I know is that a corrupted or scrambled file in the system can sometimes cause odd things to happen. If that's the case, then installing a clean system can sometimes take care of odd problems. Besides that, this is something that I recommend people do at least once a year even when they have no problems at all.

One workaround without having to delete the app is to search for each app individually on the app store. Once you have found it, tap the description for the app not the open button. This will open a separate window in which the 'open' button turns to 'update'. Tapping update will now update the app. It's a pain when you have multiple apps to update (I had 26) but its the only workaround I've found
