Turn off audio descriptions for Netflix on Apple TV

Yes! Pushing the up arrow on the Apple TV remote works!

Mines doing the same thing, and I was able to shut it off by changing the language to English. That being said, I have to do it on every episode and it’s really annoying. Does anyone have a permanent solution?

Incorrect, but thanks for playing. This is not a subtitles issue - this is an audible, audio description issue. I can't even find where I would turn such a thing on, and searching online about audio descriptions suggest that Netflix doesn't even offer such a feature. It seems like perhaps this is something Netflix is close to rolling out, but the Apple TV software can't reflect its availability yet, so these glitches are occurring. My issue doesn't occur every show I watch either; it's temperamental.

It is correct.... Just a bit more explination. Hold the select/enter (big button) down while the movie is playing. You will get options. Make sure to scroll up and select audio. once audio is up, simply scroll down to the bottom and choose English. You are set...thanks for playing 😉 hope it helps! Hi I don't know if this has already been answered and I know it's an old question but I know how to do it on the 2nd gen Apple TV it's in setting under Accessibility and Audio Descriptions is on or off

I had this issue on Apple TV…no Netflix involved while watching "Inside Out." Random issue...

On my Apple TV I went into Setting>General>Accessibility. Then turned off “Video Descriptions.” This worked for me and solved my issue immediately. If it doesn’t work for you, sorry.

I have tried and tried to fix this issue. It starts every episode with the AD even when I turned it off in Apple TV settings. I did it all again and then restarted my Apple TV. Maybe this time I fixed it. We’ll see when a new episode starts.

Same here, but I've discovered that it doesn't happen when I'm using my laptop to use Netflix, so it's likely to be an Apple TV (bug) issue, or a problem with Netflix's Apple TV connection. I hope it gets sorted out soon - nothing kills tension (comic or dramatic) quicker than a monotonous description!

Sorry I misunderstood. Audio description could be a separate track on the audio that your Tv is able to process.

Usually a file has audio AAC (for compatibility) tracks and dolby tracks

It is possible that your show has a third track and this travels to your tv that is able to decode two tracks

I would look on the tv menu in the sound part for way to suppress it

It happened to me while I was watching New Girl too. I was watching season 1 and the audio description wasn't there, moved on to season 2 and it was on the first 2 episodes. I think you're right - it may be a Netflix thing.

I already thought so, and that's exactly why I mentioned it. Come on, it's a great show. Nothing to be ashamed of. 😁

As someone already mentioned, Netflix might be rolling out that feature soon. So maybe something went wrong during a test phase, or while changing their system.

Hey you guys, Me too, It just happened to me right now, was trying to watch New Girl (can't live without Jess Day, but we all know this by now...) season two to be exact, and it started doing this annoying narrating thing, totally turns me off by the way (in a Schmidt voice) "we build this Schmidtty on tootsie roll"... Lol

has anybody come up with a solution to this, or I'll just have to bare with it for the next two episodes... (I have watched all three seasons for the third time now) But still need it to be perfect every time I watch!!!! Thanks...

Yup, looks like it's built in to the first two or three episodes of New Girl season 2 if played through the Apple TV. (Have any of the rest of you tried on other devices and, like me, had the problem disappear?)

If we all report to Netflix, hopefully they'll sort it soon.

Just talked to Netflix customer support. Looks like it's a Netflix issue, not an Apple TV issue. And it didn't sound like they were aware of it so they were reporting it to their tech team who was checking it out. Sorry, not really a fix but at least they're aware of it.
