iPhone is stuck in headphone mode

I hadn't used the headphones before this happened. I've tried cleaning out the jack with a match (it looks very clean) and plugging the headphones in and out several times whilst watching a video. Neither worked.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I've been trying to get this issue fixed on my iPhone 6 almost all day. I never use headphones and my phone has never had any water or physical damage. I tried SO MANY things and what finally worked for me was this.. HOLD DOWN THE VOLUME UP AND DOWN BUTTONS AT THE SAME TIME, WHILE STILL HOLDING THESE DO A HARD RESET. SO ALL THE STEPS YOU WILL DO AT THE SAME TIME ARE HOLD DOWN THE VOLUME UP AND DOWN BUTTONS WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE HOME BUTTON AS WELL AS THE BUTTON ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR PHONE. ONCE YOU SEE THE WHITE SCREEN WITH THE APPLE YOU CAN LET GO OF ALL BUTTONS. THIS SHOULD FIX THE ISSUE! I really hope this saves someone a lot of the hassle I've been through!!

I had this problem today with my iPhone 6, and I tried everything (cleaning the jack, reseting the network, reboot the iPhone).

After one hour, expecting to have to go to an Apple Store, I tryed an ultimate idea : kill all the application, and reboot the iPhone (pushing home button and lock button together during 10s) : MIRACLE ! The problem is solved.

As I didn't touch the connector during the operation, I'm pretty sure that there is a software problem. Since the last update (iOS 9.3.2), my device is not very stable... I hope this app reset and reboot will help.

As a person who a person who fixes many iPhone's through a 3rd party company, I see this problem quite a lot. There is 3 big ways to fix this.

1. Clean out clean the headphones jack. This can be done by taking some fluff of the end of a q-tip and swabbing around.

2. Plug and unplug 6-7 times and hard reboot your phone (hold the power and home buttons until the apple logo shows up).

3. If the problem still persists your headphones jack might be damaged internally. If that is the case you will need to replace the docks cable. I recommend looking online for a local company that does apple repairs to replace the part.

I hope that fixes your problem.

i had the same issue. All these answers I tried. My iPhone went into the tub while bathing my son. Maybe 1-2 seconds. Nothing to bad except the headphones saying plugged in while they weren't. Read all the answers yet none worked. But once I made a call then put it on speaker that's what did the trick for me. Hope this helps somebody out!

iPhone 6 Plus iOS 10.0.1

This started happening suddenly with my phone. Picked up a phone call and could not hear a thing; switched to speaker and the caller could be heard clearly. All along, the caller could hear me in speaker and non speaker mode. Reading along on some sites, a member recommended turning the volume up while the call was in progress, (or better yet, record a few seconds of voice memo and play it back while troubleshooting) if with the headphones unplugged you get the volume icon that says "headphones", then your phone is stuck in headphones mode. This individual recommended the use of compressed air to blow in the headphones jack. After I did that . . . . . voila . . . the phone worked as advertised.

Others have recommended plugging and unplugging the headset; this did not work for me. Because this appears to be a mechanical issue with the plug itself, restarting, resetting or restoring the phone will not work. All else fails take it to a local shop that can take it apart and clean or replace the jack.

My iPhone 6 did this after uploading the new IOS. Using wireless headphones on the new IOS would cause the software to default to "headphones" and I missed multiple calls. Finally, found under settings>general>accessibility>interaction>call audio routing the ability to set "automatic", "bluetooth headset", and "speaker". "automatic" allows you to switch from headphones to speaker without intervention.

This worked!!! I tried everything else on this forum none of which worked for my phone. The only thing I did different from you is that I poured hydrogen peroxide into the headphone jack opening b/c I didn't have the swimmers ear drops. I have no idea how mine got stuck this way but am relieved to have it fixed. Thank you for sharing 🙂
