iPhone is stuck in headphone mode

I hadn't used the headphones before this happened. I've tried cleaning out the jack with a match (it looks very clean) and plugging the headphones in and out several times whilst watching a video. Neither worked.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I've been trying to get this issue fixed on my iPhone 6 almost all day. I never use headphones and my phone has never had any water or physical damage. I tried SO MANY things and what finally worked for me was this.. HOLD DOWN THE VOLUME UP AND DOWN BUTTONS AT THE SAME TIME, WHILE STILL HOLDING THESE DO A HARD RESET. SO ALL THE STEPS YOU WILL DO AT THE SAME TIME ARE HOLD DOWN THE VOLUME UP AND DOWN BUTTONS WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE HOME BUTTON AS WELL AS THE BUTTON ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR PHONE. ONCE YOU SEE THE WHITE SCREEN WITH THE APPLE YOU CAN LET GO OF ALL BUTTONS. THIS SHOULD FIX THE ISSUE! I really hope this saves someone a lot of the hassle I've been through!!

Thanks so much this worked for me! I tried all the solutions proposed here, cleaning with qtip, needle, putting it in freezer/fridge, sucking/blowing with hairdryer, resetting hard resetting, calling with headphones and pluggin unplugging it etc. 50 times plugging in out....

What worked was putting on spotify so you can see what happens if you plug unplug it pauses the song. So i played a song and started fiddling with a needle and sucking the jack, surprisingly sucking the jack while playing a song in spotify made it to pause and voila after that it worked! I put play and it switched to normal mode showing the volume when hit the volume buttons instead of headphones! Thanks again! Hope this helps for others

This has happened to me twice now. The only trick which has worked is the "in and out of speaker mode". This time, instead of having someone phone me, I called an 800 #, went to speaker mode, plugged in some headphones, then removed the headphones. (I may have ended the call first, but I don't think I did.). Good luck! (PS: both times, the problem has come after updating several apps. I don't know which update is causing it.)

Continued...

And eventually updated Pokémon Go. The game started running and boom, the audio was back on through the speakers. I had just come back from skiing and figured a flake of snow got in there or something. Cleaned the audio jack with a tiny brush and some isopropyl alcohol. Removed a lot of lint from it too. Who knows, 2 hours later maybe it was dry enough, or the random software update gave it a kick start. I'll never know.

Thank you cedrey, spent hours trying all the fixes on here, I killed all applications and now its working perfectly again. Though I do have to say, it always rang when I phoned myself from the landline and the speaker during the call worked too only to return to headphone mode when I hung up. Only text message alerts, notifications, keyboard sounds and music/video apps were silent.

I tried everything as well. Tried drying out the headphone jack with a really strong hand dryer in my office. Tried resetting the network settings, tried plugging and unplugging the headphone jack several times, played around with the volume buttons, NOTHING!

Then I put the phone on Airplane mode for about 10 minutes and that Finally worked!!!!

Thank you so much 🙂

This headphone syndrome started only after I used an unknown jack to play my music. This must have bent my s/w temporally

I also noticed something funny while charging my iPhone..it kept stopping to charge intermittently!

So after trying everything mentioned in the forum which didn't work I simply tried doing a Software Update check in Settings General which confirm my s/w was updated and then everything returned to normal...!
