Can't update apps anymore iPad 2 iOS 7.0.4

I followed these steps but the problem still persists. App is launched after touching the "Update" button instead of updating the App.

Some ppl want to preserve a certain iOS version. If I wanted iOS 8, I would've downloaded it the day it became available.

Since that didn't work for you, then I would recommend resettijg the iPad to factory default condition. However that's going to put iOS 8 on it. What it will do is clean out any garbage in your system and reload a fresh and clean system for you, but it's going to be iOS 8.0.2.

Same here with 7.0.6

I have another workaround that does not necessitate to use the search function:

on the list of apps to update, tap on the app to see the description and once all the info is loaded, tap "update". It will ask you for your password and download will start.

Looking forward to seeing a more permanent solution.

This is also not working for me.

When you are in App Store > Purchased, find the app and clic on it (for now do not push open button !). Then, with full app detail on screen, push open button and will be updated. Maybe you were asked for password. After this, you can go back to list of apps in purchased tab and directly push open button (no need to open full detail).

I know is a little nightmare, but if really better than backup and restore to iOS8 (specially if your device is jailbreaked)...

I Am also having this issue. apps open instead of updating. And now the icons on the home screen are 'greyed out' as if waiting to update. I am overseas and will be for a long time so I no longer have access to my PC in order to back up the iPad so that I can restore it or do a factory reset Or update the OS.

Any one had any luck on this front

Simple Solution: For example I had to update Facebook on my iPad 7.0.4, What I did is that I searched for the facebook app (just like you search for any random one) found it there and clicked Update and it worked, Here's what you do:

1. Open Appstore

2. Search for an app that you have to update

3. Find it in the results

4. Click Update and It works (My setiings are set to the following: Auto Updating = OFF , Restrictions = ON (App Installation = ON) )

5. Enjoy!

Now if this doesn't work try turning some stuff on or off (For example if doesn't work try turning Restrictions OFF, and AUTO update ON)

I had this problem also...used the tip from another poster - go into the app's information about what's "new" and from there you can update app.

Already did that, anyway thank you for the tip 🙂

As another user previously posted I found a short term workaround by going into the Purchased section of the App Store and selecting Open on apps that were awaiting update. I had to hit Open twice to force the updates. This is on an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.6. Hope that helps!

TThis worked for me too.

TUrning on automatic updates. Letting them update. Then turning off automatic updates.

HOwever, this is a WORKAROUND not a solution.

APple needs to fix this Bug.

ANd why is my ipad capitalizing the second letter of every sentence? Geeeeez! I found another bug! Sigh

Hi you need to update Software to ios 8.1.1 on ipad. Cheers Brian

I was having same issue, for me it worked by updating each app from it's own page, not from the Updates section.

Which means, go to update section, touch the app logo, it will take you to the app page, and update right from there, it worked for me, hope it works for you as well.
