Chinese Symbols Showing
When I access the Calendar app in iCloud, I noticed I have Chinese type symbols showing up adjacent to the year. Why is this happening and how can I remove them? Thanks!

iOS 10.3.2 tested...open calendar app. With Chinese character showing click calendars Option on bottom of screen. This will open "Show calendars". Check and uncheck the different calendars until you see Chinese character disappear and reappear. Select the "i" in the circle next to the calendar, this opens "edit calendar". Select delete calendar.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Alternate Calendars (in the Calendars section) and make sure it's set to off.
YES, it is off. Be advised that my problem is happening in the "iCloud.com" Calendar, not the one in my iPhone. Thoughts?
Try going to iCloud.com, open you calendar, click on the gear icon on the lower left and choose Preferences, then on the General tab make sure Show Lunar Calendar isn't check in the Appearance section.
Well it was checked and unchecking resolved the problem. I have no idea why the Chinese symbols relate to the lunar calendar, but they obviously do. Thanks for the fix and if you can explain it, I would love to hear it... đ
You're welcome. I'm not sure why except Wikipedia says "Even though the Gregorian calendar is in common and legal use, lunar and lunisolar calendars serve to determine traditional holidays in many parts of the world, including India, China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Nepal" (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_calendar).
Thanks
You're welcome.
Still not explaining why Chinese characters. The lunar calendar has nothing to do specifically with China. Are we also going to see calendar is Hebrew, Arabic and Hindi? Makes no sense.

But in fact it does. I would imagine that Apple provides it primarily for Chinese users, who are very important to its sales

And as for the others, read what it says in the list of new features for Yosemite under Calendar:
PS International sales account for over 60% of Apples total revenue.
Good morning! I realize this chain is older but I just started having this issue; just on my mini, not iPhone, iPad etc. I opened my ical and everyday had entries with asian symbols. I declined the invitation and immediately reset my iCloud password thinking I was hacked. This morning I had another notification with "symbols "would like to share" (more symbols) 19700700.com (more symbols).
I went into my iCloud cal and the lunar cal was not checked. Any thoughts?
Thank you!
I have the same issue and I had the same notification
I found an answer. I clicked on one "invitation" (it displayed many chinese characters) and declined it. The system asked if I wanted to decline all events and I clicked on "all" and they all disappeared. I then looked for the website: 20700700.com and it is Singapore casino.
I hope this is helpful.
I had this same thing happen about 10 minutes ago - I declined all events in calendar and they disappeared, but it is disturbing that they have access to my account.
