Uverse and Time Capsule

I believe this is a question that primarily relates to how to properly configure my ATT Uverse modem/router.

I have an ATT Uverse modem as the primary internet connection. I also have the most current version of Apple's time capsule (upright model). Both are working fine together, but the Time capsule is not "extending" my wifi in the area of the house where I have it installed. I thought that by hooking up a time capsule in bridge mode, I would be able to generate a greater signal in my office, which is far away from the Uverse modem/router.

Does anyone know what settings in the ATT Uverse page I need to change to enhance the wifi connection in the office using Time Capsule? Is this even possible? I have read about putting ATT Uverse in bridge mode, and making the Time Capsule the primary base station - but will the ATT Uverse still act to extend wifi in the area where it is installed? I need both devices to extend wifi to their respective areas, and may ultimately need an Airport Express in a third area, so the configuration that would best accomodate all 3 wifi access points would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Since you are plugged into a router.. run the ethernet from router to the TC WAN port.. and do the TC setup.. the wizard in airport utility will pretty well nail it.

Only major thing to change.

Use all short names no spaces pure alphanumeric.. same for passwords but a bit longer.. do not accept the Apple recommended names.

Once you complete the setup.. open the airport utility again.. after your reboot everything in the network.. and restart in correct order..

modem.. wait 2min

TC .. wait 2min

Clients.

In the airport utility make sure the TC goes green not flashing orange.. if it does have flashing orange find out what it is complaining about.

Here this is old TC but shows what I mean.. it has double NAT.. wrong it should be in bridge..

The other issues are faults.. I ignore them but the overheating fault I cannot ignore.. (I pulled out the heat sensor.. it is not really overheating).

Click edit and go to the various pages.

Main ones are internet tab and network tab.

Internet should be DHCP.. and network tab.. this.

You must Create a wireless network.. not extend..

That should be about it..

You do not need to turn off the NVG510 wireless.. but you can if you wish.

If the TC is then acting up or you have issues.. post the same set of screenshots I have. (several times actually if you read the thread from the start).

The internet cannot go faster than the main modem connects.. ever.

Plug a computer by ethernet into the Uverse.. and do a speed test.. at a time of day.. early morning is usually the best when people are not using internet.

Nothing you do will exceed that speed.

The Apple guy might have meant you will get better wireless speed.. that is to local network. You cannot get faster speed to the internet if you already have reached it.

I've visited other forums such as Mac World and users keep saying that they have doubled their internet speeds after pairing Time Capsule with Uverse. Something about how the Uverse routers are not actually maximizing the speed of your network and the TC does that. I am not technically savvy enough to know if this is true, however, since several Apple store techs told us it would boost the speed performance of our internet, we thought it was worth a try. If not, then I think we do not need TC and can get away with a less expensive back up option.
