Getting "no longer supported" message when opening gmail though Safari on Windows based laptop. Are others having problem? Any solutions?

I have been using Safari to access a gmail account for about a year. Today, I got a message that Safari is no longer supported by gmail and I need to upgrade. But I'm using the latest version of Safari. as far as I can tell. Anyone else getting this message? Is there a solution?

Also having issues with yahoo mail, as of today, when using Safari, but I'll post that on a separate forum question. I am mentioning it here because I wonder if the 2 are related. Gmail message appeared for first time today but I was getting this message from Yahoo earlier this year. I tried the work around found on this and Yahoo forum but could only get "basis" to work on Yahoo. .Today, even basic yahoo is not acting the same, reformating and showing commands in the text when I try to reply to an email. Annoying.

I've noticed at least two other differences with Google screens on the "unsupported" versions of Safari:

(1) On the "unsupported" version, the main search screen has a black bar at the top with a bunch of Google things to choose from: +Name, Search, Images, Maps, Play, YouTube, News, Gmail, More>. On a "supported" version, the black bar is gone and on the right side are +You, Gmail, Images and then the little grid icon that will pop-up all the other Google apps.

(2) The "unsupported" version has no way to do "search by image". The supported version has a little clickable camera icon in the image search field that invokes the "search by image" interface.

So what happens with these kind of things after making the plist change?

tdbmossthanks for the info. I applied the change like you suggested and the Google and Youtube version-warnings went away. Everything still seems to be working as expected. Annoying that Google is using it's market position to bully users that refuse to play the upgrade game.

Refusing to "play the upgrade game", as you put it, will land you in the middle of a security nightmare. There are good reasons why support for old browsers has been dropped.

I'm not refusing to upgrade ,,, there is no upgrade for my 2006 Mac Mini. I run Snow Leopard because whatever came after that (Lion?) won't run (or install) on this machine. And Safari 5 is the newest version that runs on Snow Leopard.

Than use a different browser, or seriously consider replacing the machine. 9 years is a long time in computer years. You got much more usable life out of it than you would have from a comparable PC.
