How do I remove an alias from my Apple ID?

How do I remove an old xxx@icloud.com alias from my Apple ID when there is no Delete button? Further, I can create new alias and delete them again because new alias come with a Delete button, but how can I remove the old alias? Any suggestions?

iMac, iOS 8

I have the same problem.

I have had a change of name (through divorce) and I cannot get rid of the ALIAS email address which contains that married name.

Other ALIAS emails offer the option of DELETE (X) but not this one which has a (?) instead. When you click it it says it is an ALIAS email of my APPLE.ID. But nowhere to remove or edit it in any way.

Please help.

Thank you

Have same issue. This seems to be a major problem with all Apple accounts. You would think they would have a solution by now. Especially with all the complaints about this particular issue. Currently talking with Apple support and they still can't find a solution to this problem. The solution is really very simple they just don't want to implement it or allow it. 😠

Solved!

1- Log into your MacBook pro (or iMac....)

2- Click on Apple logo on top left corner on the Screen

2- Go to System Preferences ( a new windows appear )

3- Click on iCloud icon then it will prompt you to log in to iCloud on that window

4- Once you logged in, click on Account Detail on the left hand pane

5- Then click on Contact tab on top of the page

6- Under "Reachable On" section, select the email that you not require and then click "-" to remove the email

7- Click Done

8- Close the windows

This will sync your Reachable-On (Alias) contact on all your devices once you logged into iCould on other devices, i.e iPhone, iPad....

Are you actually talking about aliases - additional addresses within an iCloud account - or are you talking about the main address created when the account was created (or transferred from MobileMe)? These latter cannot be deleted. You should be able to delete aliases, but you cannot move them to another account nor create a new account using them. Once an alias has been created on an account it remains tied to that account even after deletion. Note also that if you delete an alias you cannot restore it.

WOW!

Going in circles again! Why is it so hard to get a straight answer on how to fix the problem.

HOW DO WE CHANGE THE EMAIL ADDRESS THAT IS REGISTERED AS THE ALIAS OF THE APPLE ID, when we log into apple id???

The one that is set as the IMAP email address? The one that everyone says they cant delete?

Is it me that just cannot understand why our English is not being understood here?

OK, one more time.

The reason you are not being understood is that you are not clear. Are you talking about the address which actually is your Apple ID? If you started with an @mac.com address because you had the old DotMac then you will now also have @me.com and @icloud.com addresses. If you started with MobileMe you will have an @me.com address plus the @icloud.com version. In all these cases the text before the '@' is the same. These are not aliases. They are all the same address and you cannot delete one of the versions. It's no good asking for a way to delete one or more of them because you can't.

Aliases are additional addresses with something different before the '@'. You can delete these.

As OP mentions, the "bad" address can be created by any user with access to your iDevice, without your Apple ID or password. It seems to happen when you have a non-icloud (iCloud.com, me.com, mac.com, etc.) address as your primary Apple ID. Someone is then able to create an iCloud.com address, which then becomes a permanent, non-deletable address associated with your account.

This is very frustrating! If anyone else experiences this problem, please open a support case with Apple to let them know about it. No matter the level of difficulty of coding a fix, if enough people complain, they will eventually do something about it.

If you are going to let other people have access to your device you can expect much worse things to happen than their creating an iCloud address on it. iOS devices are intended for just one person to use and if you are going to leave it lying about you should create a passcode and make sure that's required before there can be any access.
