Aperture won't update to 3.6 under Yosemite

I updated my computer this evening to Yosemite, and all of a sudden Aperture does not work. So, I see that there is an update available for Yosemite compatibilty, and when I go to update, I get the following error: And this was a legit copy of Aperture that I bought way back when 3 came out (actually it was an upgrade from v2)... Any ideas?

I also struggled to update my Aperture (purchased as physical CD a couple of years back). After trying some of the workarounds mentioned on these pages and in order to open my Aperture Library I reluctantly purchased a new copy from the store. I tried to justify that by remembering when we used to pay for software updates etc. Anyhow everything now works etc, but following purchase I went back to the store and hit the report an issue button.

I reported that I had mistakenly purchased a new copy of Aperture when I already had a boxed version and that I was only attempting to upgrade and sent my serial numbers etc (but no receipt).

Within 48 hours I had a positive response and the promise of a refund - which was credited a day later.

So straightforward after all - a very positive outcome. I hope it works for others.

Ok - I only just updated to Yosemite and it appears I missed a whole update - i.e. Mavericks - I had the same problem with Aperture and came on line for a solution. After seeing the various options I decided to get a call back from Apple Support. Like many others I purchased my version of Aperture prior to the App Store. I believe it was in 2011. It has never updated to appear in my purchases on the App Store so therefore did not update automatically with the download of the new OS - Apple called me back at the appointed time and were so very helpful. We tried a few things to get it working but eventually the operator said he would have to contact the administrators of the App Store to get them to add it to my list of purchases at which point I will be able to download the update for Aperture. Luckily I still have the original packaging for this and was able to provide the product key. The one time my hoarding nature has paid dividends! I have to say that more people should really take advantage of the great support Apple offer rather than going off on their own tangents to find a solution. To my mind they are creating their own frustrations when they can't get it to work and then they critisise Apple! Wonderful service yet again from Apple. Last time I used their support centre I had a similar outcome with the problem solved within 24 hours. Last year they replaced 2 iPads when they were damaged in 2 separate incidents. So rather than try to sort things out without really knowing what the problem is use the resources that Apple provide for a lot less frustration. While the problem shouldn't really have occurred it did and finding a solution was all I was interested in.

I know this post was way back in October, but I just had this same issue. After reading the comments, I tried to update Aperture via the purchases tab in the App Store, but nothing happened. I called Apple support and they wanted $29 to help me, but I chose the option to talk to someone about buying the option for help, and told them my issue. They referred me to the Aperture help and I didn't have to pay anything. I had downloaded Aperture originally from the App Store. Those that have the disk, may have to do this a different way.

That being said, here are the steps they had me do:

1. Uninstall Aperture. Go to finder; applications, find aperture. Click on Aperture, and look above to Action, click on that and click on Move to Trash.

2. Open the App Store

3. Go to the Featured tab in the app store

4. Click on Account which is on the right side of the page. A box comes up for you to put in your password! Don't put it in.

5. Sign out.

6. Go back to Account, and sign in.

7. Go to purchases. You will now see Install to the right of the Aperture Icon

8. Install it again and the pictures will be there.

She gave me two pieces of advice.

1. Whenever you update to a new OS system, always check to see if there are any other updates you need for your apps. Update them first. If it says it needs the new operating system, that's ok.

2. Always do a time machine backup before updating.

I hope this helps everyone!

5. Open App Store and go to purchaes.

6. Aperture should now an install button. Press the install button

7. Aperture 3.6 should now install
