Aperture won't update to 3.6 under Yosemite

I updated my computer this evening to Yosemite, and all of a sudden Aperture does not work. So, I see that there is an update available for Yosemite compatibilty, and when I go to update, I get the following error: And this was a legit copy of Aperture that I bought way back when 3 came out (actually it was an upgrade from v2)... Any ideas?

I had the exact same problem opening Aperture after upgrading. In my frustration I did the following and it fixed the problem:

  1. deleted Aperture in the applications folder
  2. in the App Store I clicked "open" under the Aperture icon
  3. I received the question like "this is the first time you are opening this App....."
  4. selected yes
  5. Aperture opened and started the upgrade of photos
  6. now it works

There are similar update problems with iPhoto, after the Yosemite upgrade.

iPhoto not working after installing Yosemite

Updating from an early iPhoto '11 version to iPhoto 9.6 does not seem to work, if the update to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1 has been skipped, just like we are seeing here for Aperture and skipping Aperture 3.5.1 and Mavericks.

Contact the App Store Support for help. Use the quick links on the right hand side of the App Store window.

Count me in on this one too. Bought the hard copy a few years back before it migrated to the App Store. Then Mountain Lion straight to Yosemite and bam...no Aperture. Apple support will solve the problem. They will provide you with an App Store redemption code (mine was emailed a few hours later) which will initiate the download. 556MB later, you'll be up and running. Long wait on the support line and a few transfers to the get to the photo support team, but nonetheless, resolved.

The problem I just had was Aperture broken once upgrading to Yosemite from Lion. Aperture did not appear under purchases in the app store at all (store bought copy), and no upgrades were available. As it was Lion I was on previously, I had unknowingly missed two updates (3.5, 3.5.2) which were essential for me to be able to download 3.6 from the app store. I simply rang Apple support and they promptly gave me a redeem code to plug into the app store and download the latest which works for OS X 10.10.

Thanks for the original posting ddiemont and for the last two posts from imartin42 and mikejackson16. I had the exact same scenario with purchase of Aperture CD version from Apple store back before app store and no record in app store and update not being allowed after Yosemite install.

It took two calls to Apple Support to finally make it happen. The first ended with there was nothing that the App store could do because I bought it from the Apple store and the Apple store saying the App store can now only issue Aperture. After finding the last two posts in this thread I called back and refereneced them and some action started to happen. It took a good while getting info and checks on Apples end, but my phone rep, Timika, working with the App store made it happen. Phew and yahoo! Download went through with redemption code and Apeture now appears under purchases for easy future updates.

Glad that Apple is addressing this through their support channels. I may have tried that myself, but wanted to avoid dealing with customer support on a relatively new issue... for anyone moving forward I would suggest calling support rather than attempting the round-about method of getting things to work that I did. just make sure to mention this thread if you run into any resistance.

Good Luck to everyone that encounters this issue in the future... hopefully Apple can resolve this through the app in the near future so their loyal customers don't run into any issues like this!

Hi,

It's a five step process

  1. Call Apple Support for Software > Aperture
  2. Answer questions at recorded message (have Aperture serial number ready – it is on a sticker on the back of the 'Installing Your Software' booklet) and you will be transferred to a real person.
Inform them of the issue and they will tell you that this is a known issue with certain users and they will request a 'Redemption Code' for the App Store for a standalone download of Aperture. The issue will be rectified in the next Yosemite release.
  3. Wait for email from Support (they have to contact Support in California for redemption code, so depending on your time zone, there may be some delay).
  4. Visit App Store, enter redemption code, and you are good to go.

Hope this helps.

Update to Aperture 3.6 compatible with Yosemite is now possible simply by going to software update (under Apple Icon in upper rhc of your screen). You will find that OS 10.10 Yosemite is Updated to version 10.10.1. Download it.

Now that you are updated to OS 10.10.1 you will need to check the App store for software updates in the normal manner. I found that I was able to now update my Aperture immediately from 3.4.5 to 3.6. I did that and after a very brief and painless Aperture library update for the new version, Aperture was up and running again. I talked to Apple support staff today and this appears to be a version just made available within the past 24 hours. I was on the phone only a total of 10 minutes today with Support and had Aperture and all my libraries (800 GB or so) up and running within the next 30 minutes!
