Yosemite breaks Ricoh/Lanier Aficio SP C240DN

Hi all,

Upgraded my late 2012 Mini to Yosemite, getting "Stopped - 'Filter' failed" when trying to print to my C240DN. The same occurred with the Yosemite betas and resolved with Mavericks. I've installed the both the Ricoh and Lanier driver updates to no avail as the C240DN is not supported by them. I'm using the latest available Mavericks driver from the Ricoh/Lanier site.

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!

That looks great. Sadly my printer is missing in the list. I have a SP C240SF. In the list is the SP C241SF mentioned. Would this driver work for me?

I can't find the 241 model on internet, accept for some pictures. It looks totally the same. Only with different colors. Anybody know if the 0 and 1 in the modelnumbers of the RICOH company point to colors or will there be other differences?

The c241 is a discontinued model that was never available in the US. It is similar in features so the driver probably would work but the installer and displayed text is likely to be Japanese.

But the c240sf has simple print capabilities. All you should need is a color print driver that is compatible with Yosemite. There is an updated driver for Yosemite available for the c420dn. This is a simple color printer and although I haven't had a chance to test it with the c240sf, it should have the same printing capabilities and the driver will work with Yosemite. (The "SF" in c240sf stands for scanner and fax. The print function is similar from model to model.)

So try the print driver for the c420dn and see if it works (it should.) And let us know how it turns out 🙂

This thread is about the c240dn. You folks with the SP C240SF have a totally different animal, and it's a bit of an oddball- I assumed incorrectly that it supported Postscript because almost all of Ricoh's Mac printing support (and available drivers) are Postscript.

And just to clarify: the c420dn drivers should work for Mac color printing on most models including the c240dn if they support Postscript.

I've double checked the documentation for the SP C240SF and it is different even from models in the same exact product family. The SP C242SF has full PCL and Postscript support, but the 240SF only officially supports GDI. Weird.

In any case, your best bet for now with the c240SF is to try the Japanese c241 drivers when they become available or start looking for CUPS alternatives.

Edit: I'm using Google translate because I don't speak Japanese, but the c241sf does appear to be similar in features to the c240sf- and the available drivers are definitely GDI.
