Macbook Air (mid-2012) won't pair with iPhone 6

I didn't see anyone ask this so far.

I checked the criteria for Continuity between devices. My Macbook Air and my iPhone 6 (obviously) meet the criteria. (By the way, I wasn't able to AirDrop ever because my devices wouldn't pair).

1) I make sure both the Macbook and iPhone has Hand-Off checked. I am running OS X Yosemite & iOS 8.

2) I turn Bluetooth on for both devices

3) Macbook shows up on iPhone list on Bluetooth and vice versa.

4) Try to connect on Macbook, clicked "Pair" the iPhone. The message comes up to check the code and pair if the code matches.

5) I check iPhone. Code matches.

6) I pair and it would say the connection was unsuccessful because the MacBook isn't within range. Ok. I did all suggestions Apple gave on the help page like moving the device closer or finding the interference. I cannot see any interference. Both the iPhone and Macbook connect to my same Bluetooth speaker perfectly fine (just for the record). And the phone is literally a few inches away from the Macbook.

That doesn't work, then I tried again and at one point, the popup message changed to "not connected because Macbook Air not supported".

Clearly, this doesn't just "work" for me and it's really annoying me. Is anyone else having this problem? I was looking forward to this feature for months.

I may have posted in the wrong thread, since I am having issues w/Handoff, not pairing.

Lawrence - yes, I did follow the instructions on the "Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite" page you posted multiple times. Handoff started working in limited fashion just suddenly on its own - Mac to iDevice. But iPhone to Mac only works for some apps - can't get the iWorks apps to work - and iPad to Mac doesn't work at all. (Oh, and iWorks apps Mac to iDevice doesn't open the actual document; just the app.)

I have the exact same issue. Using iPhone 6 and Q4 2013 MacBook Air with Yosemite. I even have the new AirPort Extreme. I spoke with Apple and the tech could not help me, he said things are very new and still learning the issues. He bumped it up to an L2 tech and I am waiting to speak with them when they call me. Funny this never happened to Timmy during the Apple presentation.

Apple please chime in, your toys are too expensive for this Sh$t!!!!

Do you have the EXACT same issue? That is, you can't BlueTooth pair your iPhone and your Mac? If that's the problem that you have, as has been said innumerable times, that's because that isn't how the Continuity features work. It isn't necessary or possible to pair via BlueTooth; BlueTooth just has to be on for both devices. If your problem is not the EXACT same issue please describe what you are trying to do and what the results are. Also, read the KB article that has been linked to many times in this thread.

It syncs via BlueTooth, but it uses a BlueTooth 4 protocol that does not require that the devices be paired. Please read the Continuity link that has been posted several times in this thread alone. It explains in detail how to set up the various continuity features. You will notice that nowhere does it say pairing is required. I've set it up and used tested some of the features and it works without pairing.
