Where is option to have side bar in iTunes 12 ?

Since, 11 iTunes has been disabling my option of having the sidebar... which is annoying... but now I cant find the option to have it again... since I found this better and easier to use than that ribbon of silly icons... It is a pain in the neck dragging a song to my iPod, in its specific playlist(still don't know how to do it properly in this new version) ... This is why I had the side bar, it was constant to the GUI design of Finder...

Please enable the option to have iTunes sidebar again... the flat GUI is irritating as it is, but getting rid of the option to have the sidebar just made me crazy, mad and insane.

How much (insert F (ing) word here) time did I waste trying to sort this out. I recently updated to itunes 12 & found that my itunes app icon had changed from blue to red. After opening itunes I saw that the side bar was missing so knowing that the colour RED was a warning & the side bar was missing I assumed that there was an error somewhere in itunes. AND DO YOU THINK I COULD FIND THIS 'ERROR' THAT TURNED MY ICON RED & CAUSED THE SIDE BAR TO GO MISSING. NO I COULD NOT YOU (insert F (ing) word here) IDIOTS. Thanks for wasting my time & causing me grief. I ask the question WHY? Why has the sidebar function been removed. Only a fool would have it removed. Each new version is supposed to be an 'upgrade' not a downgrade. As an Apple products consumer I demand choice. Give me back my sidebar.

actually, I do have podcasts. I've always done it through the podcast menu section of my iOS device through iTunes. I select which podcast I want "Selected Podcasts". But you can also do it via playlist syncing. Add any podcast any playlist that is also on your device and it syncs to the device, delete it from the playlist and it deletes from the device. Both of these methods I can still do, nothing has changed, except that I have to select my device from the top instead of the sidebar. Is this what you mean by selecting a podcast? Can you elaborate?

Not trying to be difficult, maybe there's something I can help with (then again, maybe not, but it doesn't hurt to try ;-)

Glad to see you can manage your podcasts better than me.

My playlists disappeared, I could not create new ones, I could not delete any podcasts I didn't want, I could not pick an episode from one 'cast and mix them with episodes from other 'casts, and I could not see my Nano on the same screen as my episodes so I could drag them to the playlist I use.

I deleted iTunes 12 and reinstalled iTunes 11 and all is well now. I have a sneaking suspicion that new iTunes versions are simply released to mess with people who have had the temerity to jailbreak their device (no I haven't).

Thanks for your help though.

Hey,

Even when you clicked the playlist button in iTunes, and expanded your device you couldn’t see your playlists???? This sounds like a corruption issue more than a sidebar issue. I would take it to an apple store, but that’s just my initial take.

To see your iPod Nano in the same screen as your playlist, from the Podcast view in iTunes, click the Playlist section and it will come up. this is in iTunes 12 though. This would bring the sidebar out and it's the same then as iTunes 11 with sidebar enabled.

Conversely you can select your device from the top right and it will also bring up the sidebar.

It replaced all my playlists with the default ones (Top 25, Recently Added, etc.). My playlists were gone - seems to be a common thread on Google too.

Here's an example: http://forums.ilounge.com/itunes-related-mac-pc-applications/280563-itunes-12-mi ssing-folder-subfolders-many-playlists.html

As for going over to the Apple Store, I am now running iTunes 11 and doubt I will ever do an update again.

I don't know why you wouldn't update, it's fine, actually.

I've been tinkering with it for a week or so, and I can navigate it just fine. The List View for songs/ Playlist in sidebar is basically set up the same now for me, as it was on 11. The iPhones and iPods are on the left sidebar like before, I click on the phone and it drops down the playlist in the phone.

The rest of the sidebar shows the playlists below it.

If I want to peak at the actual iPhone's content, you click on the iPhone icon in the bar, and you can have the Summary and all the adjustment menus you need.

It wasn't as painful as I thought it would be.

The update is not fine, if it was fine, I would not have made the effort to restore my entire mac from time machine , because I tried the simple roll back of uninstalling it and re-installing , did not work properly. I have a problem with its design, which in itself I see personally see as a downgrade to something that came out of the 1990s. (flat, plain and boring). The so called "sidebar" in 12 is not the same as in 11. You don't have your devices listed(iPods and iPhones etc) , they only appear when you have to hover files while dragging them.... *** seriously.... bad design... and functionality if something jerks your arm, or hand , and the possibility of music being dumped in the wrong place is more than possible.

It should be clearly visible , your iPhone's content... none of this "peaking" BS...

??? My iPhones & such appear in the sidebar when iTunes 12 is set to the Playlists view. In other views, the sidebar slides out when dragging an item in the main window. The slide out sidebar in those views does not include smart playlists, but there is no reason that it should since you can't drag & drop an item on a smart playlist.

Not trying to take your words out of context, but many of us don't want to "tinker with it for a week".

I got enough going on without having to learn Apple's new approach to giving us a new iTunes that offers no improvements (that I can see) over the old one. Except that all the basics have been re-arranged, some stuff has disappeared and some stuff doesn't work at all.

There have been 12 versions of iTunes, each of which has a zillion sub-versions. iTunes 11, for example has 12 sub-versions and every time I get a new one I have to update 3 Macs in my house so they can talk. Total PIA for not much.
