Where is option to have side bar in iTunes 12 ?

Since, 11 iTunes has been disabling my option of having the sidebar... which is annoying... but now I cant find the option to have it again... since I found this better and easier to use than that ribbon of silly icons... It is a pain in the neck dragging a song to my iPod, in its specific playlist(still don't know how to do it properly in this new version) ... This is why I had the side bar, it was constant to the GUI design of Finder...

Please enable the option to have iTunes sidebar again... the flat GUI is irritating as it is, but getting rid of the option to have the sidebar just made me crazy, mad and insane.

This is rubbish. People didn't just like the Side Bar because they were use to it or liked the old way of doing things. They liked it because it was then most useful feature of iTunes. It allowed quick access to almost every feature and function in a compact area that was simple to navigate.

I'd really love to hear from Apple what possible benefit users are suppose to get from removing the Side Bar. More often than not Apple is making bad decisions with little or no regard for end users, and we all know how well that worked out for Microsoft.

I agree!

I should know better after the last couple of upgrades that removed ease of use and functionality . . . I went ahead and did the supposed upgrade to 12 and voila, the Sidebar was gone.

Like many of the other changes to the software, someone at Apple seems to prefer STYLE over SUBSTANCE.

WHY would one remove the sidebar?!?

Dear Terrence

I understand the point of being dumbfounded by the lack of exploring that some of us are seemingly incapable of when Apple change the way that an App or operating software responds. However, perhaps Apple and yourself may see it in another light. It is akin to hiding your children's toys in another room and when they cannot find them, further punish them by telling them how silly they are for not knowing where they are. From the child's point of view they have gone. Apple and a lot of their fans think that this sort of behaviour is normal and all fine and dandy but, some of us obviously feel differently about it.

Best wishes

So, now I have a work around of sorts to show a truncated sidebar, and discovered that I have use edit to show elements in the top left corner, are you able to tell me how I, and this is just one of the many questions I have relates functional visible information, do I make the apps icon show a red circle with the number of updates pending.

In older versions, the circle was automatic and did not require additional clicks to shift to another view.

Assistance appreciated.

Dear Terrence

Roger is correct in saying that my example was an analogy. The point being made by some of us is that Apple show scant regard at times for its users. Yes, there are those of a perhaps more masochistic nature who delight in delving into the minute details of how and why things have changed and where you might find them or, why they do not exist anymore, even if Apple themselves do not make the effort to do so.

It's as if you have a new car and the indicators have been hidden. You cannot find them but someone after a lot of work finds them and then explains to others where they are. Not everyone will understand the instructions or how to interpret them and, only a small percentage of users will read it anyway. Would it not be better if the indicators were just left where you can see them in the first place?

It is great that some have the time and inclination to do Apple's job for them and work out why the wheel has been re-invented and features that are useful (eg the spinning wheel in Mail post Snow Leopard) have been disappeared when they were very straightforward and informative and are used in many other apps still in use. Of course technology moves on but the constant tweaking for the sake of it is neurotic and not really innovative in my view.

Enjoy your day.

Certainly am vaguely familiar with the concept of an analogy, my point is that your analogy demeans iTunes users, turning them into powerless creatures at the whim of Apple. They are not. They have multiple options: learn how to use the new layout, revert to a previous version or just use another app are three that occur to me straightaway. All of them involve empowered adults making mature decisions as best suits their needs. You can access the sidebar with a single click. One. Click. So far, though I have asked for details, no one has bothered to answer what is more difficult in the new layout. I ask this because if someone can explain what difficulty they have perhaps another user can point out a new way to achieve the same thing. But, no one answers that question.

I have no particular love for iTunes. I think it's quite bloated. But I have a rather large library with more than 80k items with two adults and two teenagers using it. It's synced with another Mac, three iPads and four iPhones. No one here has found the change to be difficult. It took a couple of seconds to adjust after an initial confusion. Now I know our usage is not universal, but if someone can tell me what they find more difficult then I'm happy to help - if I can - with the specific issue. However, all I'm seeing are people saying "the sidebar is gone" - which is not correct - and no specific issue apart from the sidebar is not there at first view.

You make fair points Terrence, however, does inconveniencing millions of people justify ruining an App in the first place as, it is a poor reflection of what it used to be a few incarnations ago.? With updates nowadays they seem to just get on with it without asking our permission or showing you what is going on and then next thing you know you have an update that ruins one's quite enjoyment of an App that worked well for oneself and that one is used to. Of course with Tablets and Smartphones the layouts had to be altered but it's the "my way or the highway" attitude from Apple that sticks in the craw. Instead of offering an opt-in, it seems that once you have accidently updated something you are stuck with it unless you want to spend your life re-buliding your mac. I have found many solutions on the forums and received a lot of help but the amount of time invested amounts to many months of solid time that one should maybe not have had to invest in the first place.

I seem to remember that finding the side bar is relatively simple but cannot remember now how I did it as, I had yet another malfunction in Mavericks and have spent all day rebuilding my operating system and the sidebar of course is not there now.

Perhaps you would like to remind everyone how to do it to complete this topic? 🙂
