Wifi Issues in Yosemite

Since upgrading my 2013 Macbook Air to Yosemite I am unable to maintain a stable wifi connection to my Cisco based WPA2 Enterprise (PEAP) wireless network. Seems to be load related as the wifi seems fine until I try and push any traffic through it at which point it disconnects.

I have tried removing and re-adding adaptor through network preferences as well as a PRAM reset.

Anybody having a similar issue with wifi or perhaps any ideas for a workaround? I suspect i'll most likely be waiting for apple to release an update to resolve. Thank god i have an ethernet adaptor.

I can confirm that my issue is related to WPA2 Enterprise (PEAP) wireless environments. At home i use WPA2-PSK and it seems to work fine.

Several clients (plus my own office) use Cisco based WPA2 Enterprise (PEAP) wireless environments and I have encountered the issue at all of them.

Connects fine but disconnects when any sort of load gets put through it.

Confirmed for a 2012 MacBook air on a PEAP(MSCHAPv2) connection. My connection drops after about 10 seconds consistently. Works fine on other connection types.

It was hard enough to even get corporate IT to enable an internal Mac network, now an OSX update makes it unstable. I need a patch, because they won't update their network for sure!

Some of our users have seen improvements by disabling Bonjour. In 10.10, this is performed by:

  1. Open the file /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist for editing as root.
  2. In the "ProgramArguments" array, beneath the line "<string>asl</string>", add the line "<string>--no-multicast</string>" with appropriate indentation.
  3. Reboot and test.

Please be aware that I have no idea what the broader implications of this may be, other than disabling any Bonjour service, including AirPlay, AirPrint, etc. This may cause other issues. (I've noticed that it makes the menubar Airport signal strength indicator inaccurate, and appears to prevent the automatic joining of networks.) Delete the line and reboot to reverse the change.

Dropping multicast packets at the wireless controller does not seem to help.

I think it's fair enough to say that the problem is widespread and prevalent in multiple makes and models. I'm really disappointed in the way that Apple has handled the issue. Whilst I am sure that they are working tirelessly on an update that will fix the problems, a little bit of acknowledgement wouldnt go astray.

What could they possibly stand to lose by releasing a short statement; "We are aware of an issue im Yosemite which is affecting wifi for some users and we are currently working on a solution."?

Same problem on my iPhone 5S iOS 8. WPA2 Enterprise repeatedly disconnects and reconnects while WPA2 Personal is stable. I have two SSIDs on my Cisco AP that uses each encryption respectively. I can only stay connected to the WPA2 Personal SSID.

I think enabling "Band Steering" (where the AP won't respond to 2.4 GHz requests if it also receives a 5 GHz request) or simply disabling either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz is the solution.

I have been struggling with this dog-turd 10.10.1 for several hours trying to get the wifi to work. It now does, but I may just vent a little by saying that I have had a guts full of Apple putting out overpriced substandard crap like this. I was totally Mac everything for many years but recently both Apple's politics and their nagging legacy and continuation of arrogance has really pushed me outside of the reality distortion field. This is a com pay with billions in the bank yet they a so pathetic that they cannot test their software prior to release. Sure it is hard to find and eradicate all bugs but the number of people having wifi problems is Yosemite is disgraceful and speaks of Apple's incompetence.

For all the other poor suckers out there who have also wasted considerable time (which I'm sure Apple won't pay recompense but would be happy to charge you $$$ to have their agents try to fix it) I will tell you what I did.

First, I went to my wifi and under Network...Advanced and renewed the DHCP, only to find that it was providing an address outside of my network range. So I set the IP4 setting to manual and entered a valid IP address (192.168.1.123 in my case) with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and router 192.168.1.1, okayed that then Apply, and now the wifi is working again.

**** you Apple. The above and so many other annoyances in recent times are driving me back toward Microsoft. Windows 10 is becoming more appetizing by the day.
