Server 3.2.1 Upgrade options after Yosemite

I can't seem to verify this but can anybody please let me know if theres a update for Server after upgrading to Yosemite.

I upgraded to Yosemite and the fact that I was running server did not even show up in the installation process.

After I restarted there was a Stop Sign ontop of the Server App icon.

I checked my Purchases list in the App store It said update but when I clicked it said can't update because of the Newer OS.

I deleted the Server App with the Option to Download again from my Purchased App list only to Discover it's not listed anymore.

I only have the Option to Purchase a New Version 4 from the App store.

But from all my Computer i've only updated 1 to Yosemite all my other computer are still running Mavericks So why did the Server App disappear from my Purchased Apps?

Can anybody please advise...

Is Server App version 4 a Purchase only App with no upgrade or update path from 3.2.1.?

Thanks

Completely agree, furthermore Workgroup Manager has been discontinued with the only acknowledgement from Apple I can find hidden away here. Considering how often I need to use WGM, its as good as discontinuing the Server App itself for me.

As someone who's company data is stored on an Apple Server I no longer remotely feel Apple takes the Server app seriously - after 10+ years as an Apple Server Admin the next server hardware I buy will be Windows - and it would make sense to switch the Mac workstations to PC as well.

If I was, I, like everyone else I know who does run a system-critical server would have evaluated, planned and tested any upgrade, and developed and tested a robust fallback/recovery plan, before I did the update. Hence, wherever I work (I work in lots of places), I find organisations running with older versions of server software. They don't update within a very few days of the release of the .0 version, and they don't update the host OS within days of its release without establishing prerequisites and other requirements, including that they're going to have to update the server software.

When a company tells you to go ahead and upgrade, and gives no warning about what software is incompatible, especially when it is one of the main critical applications a customer would be likely to use (a server!) that is irresponsible at best...and just a ploy to force you to buy software at worst.

If I was running a system-critical server, I wouldn't be updating because the marketing guys in the software company told me to. A server administrator would be expected to check and research possible incompatibilities before doing any upgrade.

I'm genuinely sorry that you've had serious problems and it wouldn't do any harm for Apple to be more public about the possible risks and incompatibilities of diving into a server upgrade. But it's not Apple's fault that you embarked on an upgrade to a system-critical server without having made the relevant preparations.

And just for the record - I also have encountered significant issues with this upgrade, that have cost me time, effort and worry, and still aren't fully resolved. But I was also in too much of a hurry, and I don't blame Apple for that - I just go to the Apple feedback site and feed back the issues.

Hi Nick101, thanks I did speak to someone from Apple Server support who said WGM 'should' work from a Mavericks mac remote administering a Yosemite server. I haven't upgraded the Server yet myself or managed to carry out much testing, I had planned to do a clean install of Yosemite + Server on an 'offline' Mac and CCC to the spare HD of my Mac mini Server once I was happy with it.

However, with all the uncertainty and gradual deprecation of the server features I feel I have to plan an exit strategy before OSX 10.11(?) comes out.

I have 5 MACs, 6 if you include the mac mini running Server. More than $10,000 on Apple products.

I've been using a MAC and working with Apple now for 6 or 7 years. I upgraded the 5 macs not running Server and when I got around to the Server, I said to myself, "Remember, it's Apple."

So I Google "upgrading to Yosemite on a MAC running Server" just to be certain there are no Apple gotchas'.... i don't use Server much, so I guess I'll not upgrade yet.

You would think a customer who spends more than $10,000 would get a break.... I was thinking about buying a new iMac 5k but now I don't think I will.

i think I will buy a 32 in 1080p sharp tv from best buy at $220 and use the mac mini with the 2.8 gighz i7 processor with the fusion drive instead.

Glad I checked before upgrading or I would be leaving an very disappointed comment...
