Could not open iPhoto after installing Yosemite.

Could not open iPhoto from dock or launch pad after installing Yosemite. Went into the iPhoto application in applications and clicked on MAC OS and then clicked on iPhoto. iPhoto then opened but when I closed the exec window iPhoto closed.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10), App already installed

Good suggestion. I'm a bit worried about going from Mavericks to Yosemite 10.10.5 on my Macbook Pro, I have used Iphoto since the Powerbook days, survived hardware and software upgrades, and I want to hang on to it for as long as possible.

Would it be recommendable to create a "dummy" iphoto library before upgrading to let Photo use that one, or would Photo during upgrade to Yosemite hack into whatever iphoto library it finds? I was thinking I would go to 10.10.2 first, to get iphoto running before taking my chances on going to 10.10.5. (I have install media from upgrading my other newer Mac).

If you have iPhoto 11 (that v9.x.x) you can continue to use iPhoto, simply bu upgrading it.

If you don't there is no way to continue using iPhoto unless you can access an install disk and then upgrade, iteration by iteration.

Migrating the iPhoto Library to Photos makes no difference to the iPhoto Library. None at all. Though, of course, back up first.
