Well, I suppose my mid 2012 MacBook Pro purchased in March 2013 is old....NOT. I had a choice to buy the retina display MBP, but I didn't want to. The thing is that I had zero problems with the system font in Mavericks. It was perfect.
I found discussion threads when Yosemite was in beta on more than one website and there were complaints of blur, that the font was too light and faded, and this bug was sent to Apple by many developers. Some think Apple optimized font smoothing on Yosemite for retina displays, but not non-retinas. Who knows what is going on.
I updated to 10.10.1 and the font seems to fade even more at times. It like it goes lighter and then slightly darker. I can't even tell what is active in the drop down menu. If I turn off Use LTD font smoothing, it get worse on my display. The font just isn't crisp like it was on Mavericks.
I wish there was a terminal command I could to do to increase the HN font weight to make it darker and crisper because it doesn't look as if Apple will be doing anything about this for quite some time. Very frustrating and annoying. It really affects my work and I don't want to have sore eyes all the time. Just tonight, I had to go back to that Lucinda Grande hack that someone on MacRumours offered (see my previous posts), but I'd rather that Apple fixes this font problem. I'm so ****** off.
