iPod Classic iTunes 12

Hey 🙂

Does anybody know, if the iPod Classic (120 GB, Model A128, 2008) is compatible with iTunes 12.0.1?

Thanks a lot.

I can confirm finally after much frustration that the iPod classic will not work with anything iTunes 12 and up. I ended up purchasing an old classic the other day thinking it would be incredibly cool to have, and I have now realized I purchased a lovely paper weight. I just got off the phone with apple and they have confirmed that the iPod classic will absolutely not work with the new iTunes. Attached is a picture of the chat just for explanation by the source. I've searched for hours trying to find a solution to this and I came up empty handed. Hope this helps.

I've just this minute synced my iPod Classic with iTunes (for Windows) 12.6.0.100 without any issues. It also synced with iTunes 12.5.

I can't answer your question exactly, but I can tell you that, whilst my iPod classic 160GB shows as a disk on my desktop, it doesn't seem to show up in iTunes. I am currently investigating to find out if this is resolvable or just support has been abruptly halted in iTunes?!

I would hold off on updating for now if I were you.

Simply put, i just attempted to connect my 160gb iPod classic to yosemite with itunes12 and the whole thing went bad.

The disk didn't respond, then i received error codes 1430 or 1434 in addition to "Connect to Power" warnings - I've reinstalled the device (although this fails frequently as the device appears busy), formatted via MacOSX diskUtility, gone into DFU a number of times and still annoyed about the situation.

Monitoring the system.log doesn't report errors and the diagnostics does not report bad sectors.

At (to be honest) a loss to resolve this.

Itunes recognises that the device is "Corrupted" and requests to "restore" - but all fails... Will escalate to apple support (genius) if this continues...

I would concur with some of the other posts and strongly avoid updating to 12 if you can help it - it's a crock of sh*t as far as I have experienced.

I recently tried to sync my 7th Gen Classic and it went completely wrong. No matter what I tried, iTunes couldn't cope and it repeatedly crashed or read out numerous unknown error messages. I know there isn't anything wrong with the device (never had any problems since I bought it) as I managed to successfully drag and drop about a dozen albums, but it still took me close to a day, and that was only after I had factory-restored the device 5 times and uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes about 3 or 4 times.

I am livid that I have lost all my music from the device and seem to now be faced only with the prospect of having to buy an iPod Touch; despite all the great advice on here from other users (and my limited understanding of tech & software to fix this myself), sadly I have had no luck and I'm not willing to fork out money for Apple support to tell/ask me the same thing.

Yep. I uninstalled itunes & reinstalled per another suggestion. Now all my imported files are gone. PLUS itunes updated without my permission. I never let it update automatically but it did it anyway. So thanks Apple for being "sooo much more worry free than Windows" - NOT.

I also tried installing an older version of itunes but it doesn't work because it says my library won't load because it was created with a newer version of itunes. 😟 ARGH.
