Magic Mouse disconnects

My Magic Mouse disconnects (turns off) after 5/10 seconds after connecting it to my Mac. I have to lift the mouse and click the mouse button in order to turn in on again.

I've had a look at some other posts but none of them seem similar to mine. The mouse rarely reconnects itself, you have to physically lift and shake (press) the mouse in order for the green light to light up again and the mouse to connect.

The mouse seems to disconnect (faster) when not in use (even for 1 second). If I keep using the mouse (fast moving the pointer) it seems to keep connected. I've tested with multiple batteries (Mac indicates 100% charged). It came with my 2012 Imac OSX 10.10.

Does anyone recognize this problem, or (even better) does anyone know how to solve it?

Hi,

I had a very similar issue with to a two magic mouses (magic mice?) blue-toothed to two different Macs.

After attempting many different solutions (on/off Bluetooth, computer, mouse, exchange/replace batteries, resets of all types...) This worked for me in both cases:

(1) Take out the cover (lid) of the battery case of the mouse.

(2) Bend the cover inwards (yes, bend the metal).

(3) Put the cover back in. Done / solved.

Apparently, loose batteries often cause the issue. In the above way, the cover exercises enough pressure on the batteries to keep them in place. You could use paper placed under the cover, but it will be a hassle and fall out every time.

I was reading this elsewhere on the web, and first doubted this would work, but tried and to my amazement it worked.

As the question keeps getting "I have this question too"s, I thought to share.

Note: Obviously, there can be other/very different reasons for Bluetooth connections to fail, but this reason (loose batteries) was it for me in 2/2 cases (different mice) for me.

Hope this helps someone.

I am having the very same issue. Brand new i mac. Don't recall if I had the problem before upgrading to Yosemite but I upgraded pretty much right away.

The mouse regularly disconnects and then will reconnect after I click it a few times. Most frustrating. Not connected to lifting up the mouse. New batteries didn't fix the problem. And it will happen in the middle of my working on a document or excel file so I don't think it is an issue of in-activitiy.

I think Apple must have a bug somewhere -- hopefully they will read this chain and look into this.

I have the very same issue with my Magic Trackpad. If I recall correctly, this is a known issue with Apple in OS X Yosemite 10.10. I'm using the Mgic Trackpad since I bought my Macbook Pro (mid 2012) and never had any issues. Since I started testing the Yosemite Beta and running Yosemite, the problems started to occur and didn't go away.

Batteries are ok, connection should be excellent (both are next to each other without any other Bluetooth devices near it) and I already reseted it a couple of times.

I regularly check for updates but there hasn't been one yet. I will try to clear the PRAM and come back to you A.S.A.P..

I'm having the same problem.

I have a Retina Pro from mid-2012. I have been using it and the magic mouse both for two years. When the problem first began, it was easy to fix - the mouse would spontaneously disconnect, and I would lift up the mouse, click it once, it reconnected immediately, and I would just keep on with what I was doing. It used to only happen every once in a while, but it's been gradually getting more frequent to the point where over the last week I have basically switched back to using the built-in trackpad because it is more efficient than trying to make my mouse wake back up and connect so I can keep going with work every 2-3 minutes. I just changed to two fresh Duracell batteries, and also just reset the PRAM as mentioned earlier in this thread, but the problem continues. One thing - I seem to have noticed that basically if I ever pick up the mouse, like I do a hundred times a minute to move the mouse further along the screen than my mousepad / wrist go, it immediately disconnects. What the heck is going on?

Also, it sounds like I'm having the same problem as everyone else in this thread, but I'm running Mountain Lion, not Yosemite, so maybe there are two separate problems going on here? I see I'm not the only person who had problems before Yosemite.

If anyone has any recommendations for a different wireless mouse that does *not* have this problem but is Mac-friendly (had a bad experience installing a Microsoft mouse onto a previous MacBook), please let me know!

This keeps happening to me too. The batteries are brand new and it shows 96% battery availability. But it keeps disonnecting (Apple bluetooth mouse) and I keep reconnecting it and then it reconnects again.

It worked fine until very recently.

It's driving me nuts as I loathe using trackpad and it's slows me down.

I tried doing PRAM - shutting down and then starting up holding command plus R and P - but I don't think I did it right as PRAM didnt' come up on.....

It's a new mouse, only few months old.

I'm on 10.9.5

Help!!! Thank you.

Okay, a little feedback. I resetten the PRAM and got another issue, no sound!

My mac wasn't able to adjust my sound settings va the buttons nor on my Mac. Ik reinstalled my Mac and updated it fully, no results. After a week it just cam back as miraculously as it stopped....

Strange devices..! Luckily the sound came back. The issues with the Bluetooth input devices (my trackpad) still doesn't work properly.

To get this to work I did the following:

1. Turned off Bluetooth

2. Turned off Wifi

3. Turned on Bluetooth (setup pairing before turning Wifi back one)

4. Turned on Wifi

After step 3, the bluetooth prompted me to pair with my magic mouse. It seems like the Wifi issue mentioned earlier could be conflicting with the bluetooth. Disabling Wifi solved my problem.

This solution wouldn't work for me as my desktop Mac is on ethernet.

My mouse keeps loosing connection and then reconnecting after a couple of clicks.

I've tried the batteries, reseting the PRAM & SMC, tin foill on the battery points & folded paper in the mouse.

Even tried a brand new mouse.

Everything was fine until I updated to 10.10.2

I'm buying a new mouse.... that doesn't use bluetooth.

I'm selling the Apple mice I have on ebay... right now I'm using a old Apple wired mouse.

The joy of tech ; )

Has anybody tried the steps mentioned in this Apple link?

OS X: Bluetooth devices become unresponsive - Apple Support

I've got two systems (an iMac and a mini) both with Yosemite and both experiencing the intermittent bluetooth disconnects, that only happened after upgrading to Yosemite. I have tried everything else mentioned in this thread, with no permanent solution, so I'm going to give what's listed in that Apple link a try next.

This issue has just started for me as well after installing the Yosemite Beta 3, if this has been a known issue you would think they would have fixed it before releasing photos, my word!

Yosemite has to be the worst OS I have ever used, I have lost whole days of work just trying to sort out issues.

1. USB keyboard would not connect; ended up using Bluetooth keyboard, which unfortunately does not have extended pad.

2. Core audio did not work, very stressful when your profession is music. Issue sort of fixed but core audio seems very buggy, lots of glitches and drop outs. Definitely not my interface as it works seamlessly on other systems, plus it does the same through internal speakers.

3. Freezing on startup, just began after 10.3 update

4. I blamed Virgin for Wireless connection, maybe they have been getting grief for nothing - sorry Virgin! Come to think of it, this did start happening when updating to Yosemite.

5. Magic mouse keeps losing connection, this has only started happening on 10.3 update.

6. Although I cannot say it is an Apple issue, I used to be able to run FW800 audio interface at very low buffer settings on a 8-core 8GB RAM 7200RPM HDD Mac Pro with Snow Leopard. Now on a 12-Core 64GB RAM PCIe SSD Mac Pro I get dropouts all the time even on large buffer sizes, even though CPU etc are not even hitting 10%.

I noticed my trackpad skipping a short while after installing 10.10.3 - now it becomes totally unusable at times, and sometimes even disconnects. I've tried removing it and re-pairing it. The batteries are new and fully charged.

This looks like a software issue, I hope they patch it. Using my backup Logitech Anywhere MX *****!
