usb mouse not working with Yosemite, help!

Just installed Yosemite on my Mac mini (Late 2012, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i&, 4GB memory). Yosemite appears to have installed correctly, but my USB logitech mouse is no longer working. I've been using this wireless Logitech mouse+keyboard combo for years without problems. The model number is CE0682. The combo has a receiver which plugs into a single USB port on the Mac mini, and pairs with both a wireless keyboard + wireless mouse. The keyboard works fine but the mouse doesn't respond at all. I've tried replacing the batteries, even though they reported as good, and tried repairing, even though the keyboard working indicates there was no need for it. When I unplug and replug the receiver, it is clear that Yosemite recognizes that I've removed and replugged in a mouse. (I was able to open the System Preferences -> Mouse panel by using Screen Sharing from a laptop running Yosemite, and use a remote mouse that way. With the Mouse system preference page open, when I unplug and replug in the mouse, the preference page clearly indicates there is no mouse attached then that there is a mouse attached.) I've also tried plugging in the receiver to a Mac laptop running Yosemite and again the keyboard works but the mouse doesn't.

I too tried the approach of just reinstalling (LCC) version 3.9.1... tried it several times. While the cursor moves just fine, it is the customizable buttons that seem to work for a short while, but soon stop working or show odd behavior. I adjusted the cursor speed and reset the buttons. I also tried the work-around. At first, it seemed to work. Shortly after, the buttons stopped working. I'm still waiting for the LCC update. In the meantime, my Kensington Orbit trackball is still working perfectly - cursor and the customized buttons.

I'm using the Logitech K750 Solar Keyboard w/ Unifying receiver and my invaluable Logitech Revolution MX mouse. LCC not working, so I uninstalled it and went with SteerMouse. Of course, Logitech has made it such that with LCC you can't have SteerMouse installed, so no way to map all the F-keys as Function keys. So, on to Keyboard Maestro, but I can only use some of the Function keys unless I want to do a 2 hand reach for the "Fn" key.

My issue is that the buttons will work with SteerMouse, but after using the mouse a short time, the scroll wheel tilt functions disappear and the button behind them doesn't work. As they're an integral part of my workflow in many apps, I have to unplug and replug in the USB dongle for the Revolution. I'm mystified as to why it loses connection to those buttons specifically. Waiting on an LCC update.

I've been having the same "mouse" problem. I changed from a USB mouse to a cordless mouse.... both logitech... did all the resetting of PRAM, SMC and what not... installed LLC... blah... blah.. blah... All did not work.

What actually did work for me is that I changed to a lenovo mouse. Henceforth, all was back to usual.

So suggest to change the mouse brand if logitech doesn't update their driver or if yosemite doesn't fix this bug.

As suggested previously in this forum, the most effective way to influence this situation is CALL LOGITECH @ (646) 454-3200 and complain. Be aware that you may have to wait 25-30 mins before they answer. AND, you may get disconnected more than once and have to call again. And you may encounter a rep that knows absolutely NOTHING... but it is still better to CALL them.

The only ignorance here is having a vested interest and pretending that folks won't notice your stake in the game isn't fixing or helping, it's justifying Apple.

Not a bad effort, though honestly don't know if you're trolling or not. Since you don't actually know me (unless you're a stalker) your opinions about my allegiances amount to gaseous speculation. In fact, I'm the first to jump on Apple for screwing up. Like the horrendous treatment of Macbook Pro 2011 GPU failure issue is simply disgusting (I should know, given I penned an email to Tim Cook about this).

However the facts simply point to Logitech being at fault here.

If someone suddenly started accusing you of being "pro Logitech", that would be baseless 😉 (unless you had publicly professed your love for them). So maybe Apple could be apportioned a small amount of blame, but who knows? At this stage all the evidence points to Logitech not giving a fsck. This is further backed up by my interactions with their support team on the issue.

Logitech took days to respond and refused provide a ballpark ETA on when it might be released.

My suggestion to others, email and call them, at worst it will do nothing, but might just raise awareness and help prioritize their OSX customers.

I'm not going to write or call them, because I've given up on Logitech. I'm using Keyboard Maestro for my solar keyboard and SteerMouse for my Revolution MX Mouse (and, as an aside, I think the Revolution was the most popular mouse they ever made. So why deprecate it to the crappy Performance Mouse?). What I'm losing is LCC's allowing me to designate all of the function keys as such, rather than Apple shortcut keys. I'll just live with that.

I'm sure no one from Logitech cares enough to read this, but it's a crying shame that a company can make such great hardware and have such buggy and late-to-update software. Actually, a long time ago I wrote a lengthy review of the diNovo Mac Edition keyboard. The engineer who designed it Emailed me after the review and called me from Sweden. He actually had to confirm with the software side that they had deprecated the F-keys, such that only some could be used as true Function keys. Software said they were working on it. Well, just like they're working on this. In other words, not at all.

Ahh I forgot about steermouse, think I'm going to try that again. Thanks

For the record, agree about Logitech making nice hardware. They have great product designers. For me the infinite/hyperscroll is amazing. Makes browsing a real pleasure.

I have three Macs connected through a USB switch to a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. Two Mac Minis running Yosemite and one Macbook Pro running Mavericks. The mouse clicks and scrolls quit working sometimes although the motion still works. Switching to the Mavericks machine I see the clicks working. Back to the Yosemite machine with the problem, and it doesn't work. Switch to the other Yosemite machine, and it works there, so it is not the mouse, keyboard or switch - it is one specific Mac when it happens. Not always the same Mac. Swapping the USB port doesn't help.

Another problem that gets confused with this one is the USB port failure. Everything on a port will just stop working. Only a reboot gets it back, and then a different port might quit later. This happens to me rarely, and only on the Yosemite machines.

Otherwise I like Yosemite, but I don't think it is quite ready. I'm moving back to Mavericks for a while longer - at least until they can fix the USB related problems.

According to a number of Logitech mouse owners chatting on the user forum below, a 3rd party app called Steermouse works great as a perfect substitute for the LCC driver with all Logitech devices. They say it provides complete options for customizing the buttons and scrollwheel on any Logitech mouse or trackball mouse. One person said, “It works every bit as well, if not better than Logitech’s LCC driver”. AND, the app has been updated for Yosemite... what a concept.

You can try SteerMouse free for 30 days. It costs $20 to own the software. You'll no longer be dependent on Logitech's execrable software development team and bloated, missing software. I am fed up with Logitech's delay and am going to try it. You can see reviews at MacUpdate.com <http://bit.ly/1Aptzi6> and download a trial version at: <http://plentycom.jp/en/steermouse/index.html>

I haven't installed any Logitech software on any of the Macs that are using the mouse, so I'm not going to blame it on Logitech drivers, and I'm going to resist installing yet another unknown to fix a problem that has been misdiagnosed so many times. The only thing I changed is the OS. Apple screwed up. Yosemite isn't ready. It's no big deal - just send me an update when it's ready and I'll put it back on.

Dave, I don't know where you got the idea that Apple messed up by not providing the software driver for a 3rd party mouse, but that is a complete misunderstanding. Only Logitech provides the driver for their mice, not Apple. If you are using a Logitech mouse on any computer, it requires the installation of their software driver... or a substitute app like SteerMouse. That is a fact, not my opinion.

Nov 21, 2014 10:27 AM in response to AMCarter3

There is no Logitech driver on any of my Macs. Never has been. That is a fact. It is a standard USB mouse, handled by the standard USB mouse drivers on OS X, Windows, Linux. Another fact. It has worked fine on every version of OS X I've run on these Macs, until Yosemite. Yes, another fact. I guess we'll need to disagree on this one. That is an opinion.

Here's another 3rd party app/driver for mice that can server as a substitute for Logitech missing LCC update. It's called "USB Overdrive 3.1". The app's site states it is updated for Yosemite. Both this app and the SteerMouse app were recommended by Kinesis.com for their ergonomic mice. Kinesis, if you don't know of them, sells some of the highest quality ergonomic keyboards and mice available -- expensive, but really well designed.
