Yosemite and Logic Pro X

Hello.

Since there does not seem to be a thread regarding Logic Pro X on Yosemite yet, I thought I might as well get the ball rolling.

For the early adopters, how are you experiencing LPX on Yosemite? Good or bad so far?

For those who have not yet adopted Yosemite but are thinking about doing so, here is some really good advice from community participant "The Art of Sound": Latest OS X & Logic Pro Compatibility Information

Thanks for the contribution if any.

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), Logic Pro X.0.7

Had a Kernel Panik this morning.

Sent the mac to sleep yesterday.

Seemed to wake up by by his own and restarted because of the panic.

Looks like it's an iLok issue.

From log:

System uptime in nanoseconds: 20301260610230

last loaded kext at 20216933379342: com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDC 4.2.2b5 (addr 0xffffff7fa08e2000, size 20480)

last unloaded kext at 17055196719464: com.apple.filesystems.msdosfs 1.10 (addr 0xffffff7fa08e6000, size 61440)

loaded kexts:

com.paceap.kext.pacesupport.snowleopard 5.9.1

com.RME.driver.HDSPMADI 4.01

com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDC 4.2.2b5

com.apple.filesystems.exfat 1.4

com.apple.filesystems.afpfs 11.0

Deleted paceap.kext.

Still can use my Slate plugins.

Maybe I just can not register new plugins, hopefully.

Opening the iLok manager just say's.

"There is a new version out"

Downloading the "new" version but it's not new at all.

When I first said no issue with Yosemite and Logic I spoke too soon.

In reality I had MAJOR cpu overload issues.

After 3 days of tedious trouble shooting I gave up and reinstalled Yosemite.

I'm very pleased to report that, so far, that step has solved the cpu issues.

Slate plugin are working and they were working even with the cpu issue.

Fingers crossed.

Wel, once again I've spoken too soon. 😢

I thought that a reinstall of Yosemite yesterday had fixed my massive CPU load issue.

Logic worked as per normal for a few hours yesterday, back to same performance as 10.9.5

Last night I shut down, as I do everyday.

Today the problem has returned !!

All that has happened today is that I repaired permissions before booting Logic !!!

This is so frustrating.

I KNOW I'm to blame for jumping in to Yosemite.

But I did wait a few days and saw positive feedback about Logic and Yosemite on several music forums I frequent.

I have the Apogee Duet2 driver updated for Yosemite.

It seems to be related to plugins, not audio drivers.

All my plugins validate.

Where is Logic 10.0.8 and Yosemite 10.10.1 😊

Hi AoS,

You are always most helpful.

Here is what I'm experiencing since upgrading to 10.10 (and I'm using LPX 10.0.7):

1) I am getting a delay/lag when I record. It is quite noticeable. A recorded sound is late.

2) I am getting no waveforms in recorded regions. I see the waveform while recording, but it is gone when recording ends and is not visible even when the region is greatly magnified.

I just upgraded to Yosemite today and that is when this started. Could it be something else? Anyone else seeing these problems?

Update:

LPX10.0.7 and 10.10 with latest 10.10 Motu drivers and Ultralites

No change in audio quality... No sync issue.. Previous projects loading and playing back without issue.

Haven't come across an 3rd party plugin issues either...

Performance actually seems a little better than under 10.9.....

Tested on both Clean install and Upgraded from 10.9.5 systems...

Hi ges,

As per Pancenter's helpful post on this matter.....

Go to preferences/audio make sure Recording Delay is set to 0 <zero>

I suspect somehow this value got changed from Zero..... so reset it back....

That should resolve both your issues....

Cheers..

Nigel,

That's the only answer I know anymore...😉 doesn't take long for things to progress, I'm at loss when it comes to the new software, especially the operating systems. Apple is getting close to it's goal of integrating OSX and iOS into a single development platform. Don't know if that's a good thing for DAW systems or not, time will tell.

Clancy,

I am sure you are correct... Eventually i think iOS and OS X will be one and the same thing....

As to if thats a good or bad thing.. is a different matter....... and only time will tell I'm sure.

🙂

You answer for that 'no wave' problem helped me fix things for two of my clients who had similar issues.. so for that, many thanks my friend!

Btw.. one benefit of Yosemite is the new Midi over Bluetooth stuff......

http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2014/10/28/midi-over-bluetooth-with-yosemite-i os-8-ableton-live/

I've been experimenting with it today and so far it works a treat! Turns my iPad wirelessly into an external AU FX or Instrument plugin for use in Logic if you like...

Going to doing a lot more testing of this new feature over the next couple of weeks....

That was exactly the problem. I never have messed with the recording delay for any reason. So I didn't think to look at it.

Problem solved. Thanks!

No, I built this project from scratch.

Two things I can think of:

Upgrading to Yosemite (seems unlikely)

or implementing some auto-doubling as per this youtube tutorial:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKOwNw9U4lE

But that seems kind of unlikely too, though it did involve using plug-ins to mess with delay.

Yes, you're not the first to report the "recording delay" being changed without your input. Was this by any chance an imported Logic-9 project?
